Job summary

Westlake Chemical is hiring for Material Technicians in Lenexa, Kansas, with Night Shift 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM and Day Shift 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM on a rotating schedule; a shift differential applies. The role supports production by training operators, handling changeovers, and ensuring material movement and quality checks.

  • Trains and relieves machine operators as needed.
  • Fills in for the Lead during their absence, including color changes and quality checks.
  • Reads work orders to determine materials or containers to be moved.
  • Counts, weighs, and records units of materials moved daily.
  • Lifts heavy objects by hand or with power hoist; cleans work area and equipment.
  • Operates industrial truck or electric hoist to move materials and products.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Trains and relieves machine operators as needed
  • Fills in for the Lead during their absence, including performing color changes, quality checks, and become familiar with mold changeovers
  • Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved
  • Counts, weighs, and records number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet
  • Lifts heavy objects by hand or with power hoist, and cleans work area, machines, and equipment to assist machine operators
  • Dumps by hand materials such as colors or plastic, into machine hoppers or move product by hand onto scrap pallets
  • Operates industrial truck or electric hoist to assist in loading or moving materials and products
  • Reads spread sheets to determine specific material requirements at changeovers
  • Performs necessary maintenance and repair on some equipment used
  • Responsible for performing the physical tasks involved in the shipping, receiving, storing, and distributing of products, materials, parts, supplies and equipment
  • Prepares and maintains records of product movement
  • Pulls raw materials and finish product from various locations for manufacturing orders
