Overview

Material Handler - Starting Pay $$22.48/Hour at Primient. The Material Handler role in the Loudon Plant Barge Terminal is an operator level position reporting to the Barge Terminal Area Manager. The Material Handler focuses on loading and unloading trucks, rails, and barges in a safe, efficient manner. Material Handlers are responsible for the safe operation of heavy equipment and basic maintenance and troubleshooting. This role requires a 12-hour rotating shift schedule working days, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities
  • Load and unload barges, trucks, and/or rail cars.
  • Safely perform Deckhand duties on Barges.
  • Operate corn-unloading systems at Silo’s, including corn sample analysis and documentation. Operate heavy equipment, including but not limited to Hitachi, Bobcat, front end loader, Clam Shell, and skid steer loader.
  • Participate in all safety training, daily safety meetings, and safety audits; report injuries and accidents immediately.
  • Complete safety initiatives and incentives on time.
  • Participate in the creation of JSA and SOPs.
  • Issue permits (work permit, lockout/tagout, and hot work permits). Know locations of headcount areas, emergency evacuation routes, and storm shelters. Knowledge of USCG MarSec levels.
  • Know area goals and principles.
  • Know Primient policies and procedures. Flexible and willing to work scheduled shifts including night shifts, weekends, rotation/swing shifts, holidays and overtime as needed. Understand hazards of inclement weather. Complete area testing.
  • Startup and shutdown procedures for equipment and systems; troubleshoot and communicate issues.
  • Maintain safety and GMP standards in the area.
  • Give clear, well-communicated turnovers to the next shift.
  • Complete daily documentation and log-book.
  • Draft and prep barges; deckhand knowledge (knot tying) to properly secure barges and loading/unloading cells.
  • Report inventory and railcar off-loading (Grain Smart).
  • Knowledge of gentle rolls and baghouse clean-out.
  • Clear communication skills.
  • Draft Notifications.
  • Ability to work in hot and cold temperatures, climb and work at heights exceeding 50 feet, climb ladders, lift and carry 55 lbs, and perform other physical duties.
