Material Handler
This position is part of the Plant family, responsible for receiving, processing, storing, and distributing metal. It includes specialized equipment operation and support functions that require knowledge of warehouse work, safety, and the methods employed by the Reliance, Inc. family. Main duties involve moving inventory and equipment, locating material, pulling from racks, packaging by work orders or core shop knowledge, communicating with teammates, storing or processing inventory, and maintaining warehouse upkeep.
Job Functions
- Generally responsible for completing basic, routine tasks with detailed instructions and/or core knowledge of shop flow.
- Pulls and assembles orders based on reviewing work/shipping orders or other documentation.
- Coordinates and executes material handling.
- Performs quality control inspections.
- Sorts and packages parts as directed.
- Tags material for proper identification and completes all required documentation.
- Completes work order paperwork/documentation.
- Operates yard truck, forklift, and overhead crane for loading and unloading trailers.
- Spot checks inventory, completes daily and/or ad hoc checks for proper tagging of material.
- Reports any irregularities to supervisor for direction.
- Ensures compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.
- Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area.
- Performs other duties assigned by supervisor.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Valid Driver’s License.
- 0-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent education and experience.
- Demonstrated manual dexterity, finger dexterity, arm‑hand steadiness, and multilimbed coordination.
- Ability to read and comprehend written instructions for work situations.
- Application of common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Basic measurement skills for length, width, height, and weight, and basic math calculations.
- Basic arithmetic skills for decimals and fractions.
- Ability to multi‑task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
- Sound decision making based on knowledge, experience, and judgment.
- Ability to lift 100 pounds occasionally and 60 pounds repetitively.
- Ability to stand for sustained periods of time.
- Ability to push or pull 80 pounds of force.
- Ability to move up and down off‑truck trailers repeatedly.
- Ability to tolerate temperatures in excess of 100 °F and below 32 °F.
- Excellent working relationships with supervisors, co‑workers, internal customers, and vendors.
- Certification to operate all required motorized material handling and rigging equipment.
- Basic computer proficiency and knowledge of software applications.
- Warehousing and material handling experience (preferred).
- High School diploma or GED (preferred).
Environmental
Employee is subject to temperatures in excess of 100 °F and below 32 °F.
Shift
3rd shift – 9:30 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. (Sun–Thu).
