Job summary

IPEX in Mississauga, ON is hiring a Material Handler to measure, inspect and package finished product for distribution. The role reports to the Production Manager and serves as a training path for extrusion operator trainee and blender trainee positions.

On-the-job training is provided, so prior experience is not required. The work schedule is 12-hour continental shifts (days 8am–8pm, nights 8pm–8am) with a night shift premium where applicable.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience in manufacturing is an asset.
  • Experience with plastic extrusion is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices is necessary.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Willing to rotate days/nights bi-weekly.

Responsibilities

  • Operate mobile material handling equipment used for packaging of finished product into crates or bundles.
  • Identify processing problems on equipment and report to Shift Supervisor.
  • Measure and record dimensional and physical properties of product over time.
  • Maintain orderly storage areas for material, scrap and pipe.
  • Assist in movement and setup of equipment in production areas.
  • Assist in startup of production line and manufacture to specifications.
  • Build and pack pipe crates.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Job Summary

We are seeking a Material Handler to focus on measuring, inspecting and packaging finished product for distribution. This position reports to the Production Manager and serves as a training position for the Extrusion Operator Trainee, and Blender Trainee roles. All functions performed by these positions will become part of this job as the incumbent acquires the adequate knowledge and experience. On-the-job training is provided, so experience is not vital!

Work Schedule : 12-hour rotational continental shift schedule (Days: 8am - 8pm, Nights: 8pm - 8am)

Salary : $24.38/hour + night shift premium (where applicable)

Responsibilities
  • Operate mobile material handling equipment used for the packaging of finished product into crates or bundles
  • Identify all processing problems on all equipment and report them to the Shift Supervisor responsible.
  • Measure and record dimensional and physical properties of the product at predetermined periods of time
  • Ensure all material storage areas, scrap storage areas and pipe storage areas are maintained in an orderly and clean manner.
  • Assist in the movement and setting up of equipment into or out of the production areas.
  • Assist in the Startup of a production line and manufacture product to the required external and internal specifications.
  • Building and packing pipe crates.
  • Perform a variety of other tasks as assigned
Requirements
  • Completion of high school diploma or practical equivalent.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment is an asset
  • Experience with plastic extrusion is a strong asset
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety practices is necessary.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Must be flexible to work a bi-weekly rotating day and night shift schedule

Working Conditions

Incumbent spends almost 100% of their time in the plant environment requiring varying degrees of considerable physical labour, lifting, pulling, and pushing heavy objects (50-75 lbs.), standing and walking covers majority of the work. Personal safety is affected by exposure to heat, dust, noise levels and the use of equipment such as sharp blades. Moderate amount of sensory attention is required. Limited control of work pace and unexpected workflow brings considerable stresses to this position. The incumbent understands, respects, and adheres to the workplace Health and Safety rules and Safe Work Practices.
