Material Handler Leader

Join our growing logistics team in Houston, TX!

Summary:

Performs all Material Handler duties while serving as the designated coordination point for warehouse activities during assigned shifts. Distributes daily tasks, supports employee training, maintains warehouse readiness, promotes safe work practices, and acts as the primary warehouse point of contact for the Logistics Manager. This position leads operational tasks and team workflows; it does not carry supervisory or disciplinary authority over employees.

Salary & Compensation:

• Base Pay: $23.00 / Hour.
• Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week guaranteed.
• Retention Bonus: $2,000 retention bonus paid upon completing 90 days of continuous employment with the company.
• Internal Referral Bonus: Employee referral bonus available for internal staff who refer hired candidates.

Key Responsibilities:

• Daily Task Coordination: Serve as the primary warehouse contact with the Logistics Manager, distributing daily tasks to Material Handlers across receiving, order pulling, loading/unloading, customer pickups, staging, and yard operations.
• Training & Onboarding: Train and support new hires on job tasks, safety protocols, equipment operation, product handling, and warehouse procedures.
• Warehouse Readiness & Security: Perform opening and closing facility checks; verify doors, gates, and alarms; ensure tools, forklifts, and yard equipment are properly parked, secured, or charged.
• Shipping & Documentation Accuracy: Verify bills of lading, packing lists, order accuracy, and piece counts before dispatch. Confirm same-day ERP entries for receipts and shipments.
• Quality & Damage Control: Inspect incoming glass, mirror, and hardware products; document damaged materials with photos and report discrepancies immediately to management.
• Safety & Toolbox Talks: Lead shift huddles and safety toolbox talks; enforce PPE compliance; support 5S standards and daily warehouse housekeeping.
• Material Handling Operations: Read sales orders/requisitions, move materials, sort/stage stock, cut glass/aluminum extrusions to customer specifications, and process receiving transactions in the ERP system.
• Yard & Equipment Operation: Safely maneuver tractor-trailers, containers on chassis, yard mules, and boom trucks within the warehouse court/yard when trained and authorized.
• Supply Control: Distribute warehouse supplies/PPE and report replenishment needs to the Logistics Coordinator.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent; Forklift and Crane Rigging Certification preferred.
• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in warehouse operations or material handling preferred.
• Equipment Operation: Ability to operate (or be trained/authorized to operate) yard equipment, including tractor-trailers, yard mules, containers on chassis, and boom trucks.
• Languages: Demonstrated ability to understand and communicate in both English and Spanish (Bilingual strongly preferred).

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong attention to detail in shipping documentation and ERP data entry.
• Proficiency in operating forklifts, overhead cranes, and maneuvering yard equipment safely.
• Excellent leadership by example, organization, task prioritization, and communication skills.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

• Work is performed in warehouse and truck court/yard environments around heavy machinery and moving equipment.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Must be able to stand, walk, bend, climb, reach, push, pull, and climb on/off truck flatbeds throughout the shift.
