Job summary

Dover Food Retail in Colonial Heights, VA seeks a Material Handler II, 2nd Shift, to load/unload materials and support frames department, ensuring material flow and inventory accuracy. This onsite role requires a high school diploma and warehouse experience.

You will operate hand trucks, forklifts, conveyors, and participate in continuous improvement, with opportunities to work with inventory control and distribution teams.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Loads/unloads materials and maintains material flow for Frames Department.

  • Maintains inventory accuracy and notifies Inventory Control of issues.
  • Coordinates with Inventory Control and Leads during investigations and improvements.
  • Transfers, transports and stages materials in a timely and accurate manner.

What we are looking for:

The Material Handler will be responsible for accurately and safely loading and unloading of materials while maintaining the flow of materials to the organizations to ensure that all aspects of the company needs are being met for our Frames Department.

What you will be responsible for in this role:

  • Consignment inventory, location to location moves, & inventory adjustments.
  • Operates hand trucks, forklifts, hoists, conveyors, or other handling equipment to move material to and from trucks or within the facility.
  • Responsible for the ongoing inventory accuracy of the facility. Notifies one of the following: Inventory Control, Receiving Lead & Receiving Supervisor when material control issues are discovered.
  • Works with Inventory Control & Lead(s) during investigations of quality issues, inventory issues, shipping complaints and process improvements. Works as part of the Distribution team to ensure all requested material transfers are completed accurately in a timely manner.
  • Transfers, transports and stages materials in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Maintains warehouse documentation and other related records.
  • Participates in the continuous improvement of the distribution department.
  • Communication of job status between shifts and continuation of work in progress.
  • Quickly and effectively shifts gears to meet changing business requirements.
  • Helps establish continuous improvement processes that result in the most effective use of all
  • resources, reducing costs, and improving quality.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

What are the basic qualifications?

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have a minimum of 12 months warehouse experience
  • Knowledge and understanding of manufacturing processes
  • Ability to operate all forms of forklifts
  • Demonstrated strong and effective communication skills

What are the preferred qualifications?

  • 2+ years’ experience pulling orders in a warehouse environment.

  • Must be able to work with machine operators, mechanics, contractors, drivers and/or vendors.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms
  • Must be able to sit, stoop, and/or kneel
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasional extended hours are required.
  • Must have a positive attitude.
