Ideal candidates have 1–3 years of warehouse experience, forklift and crane familiarity, and a commitment to safety per OSHA standards. You will lift up to 50 lbs, work outdoors when needed, and log inventory movements in the warehouse system.

Qualifications

Overview

Stewart & Stevenson is Now Hiring a Material Handler II at10750 Telge Road Houston, TX 77095.

A MaterialHandler II is a warehouse professional responsible for moving, storing, and organizing products and raw materials. They load and unload shipments, operate equipment like forklifts, side loader, help prepare, secure, and guide heavy loads for crane lifting operations, track inventory, and ensure goods are safely prepared for distribution or production lines.

Responsibilities
  • Safely drive and maintain powered industrial trucks, like forklifts, company big forklift, reach trucks and tuggers, and terminal tractor, (yard dog) completing pre-use inspections.
  • Transport and store materials in designated racks and document the location of inventory.
  • Pull, pack, and stage materials or finished products for shipping and production orders.
  • Unload incoming freight, inspect deliveries for damage, and verify packing slips against actual contents.
  • Inspect loads, determine weight, and balance, and calculate the center of gravity before lifting.
  • Guide crane operators during blind or difficult lifts using standardized hand signals or radios.
  • Choose the proper ropes, slings, chains, shackles, and beams required to safely secure the object.
  • Operate indoor overhead cranes and jib cranes
  • Assemble, attach, and maintain the rigging equipment, and dismantle it once the job is complete.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly warehouse floor, complying with all OSHA and workplace safety standards.
  • Perform routine pre-use inspections on machinery and keep the loading docks, storage zones, and work environments organized and clean.
  • Routes items to departments.
  • Follow all safety protocols.
  • Perform inventory controls.
  • Scan barcodes and log product movements inside Warehouse Management Systems.
  • Ability to adapt to change in the workplace.
Qualifications
  • The ability to bend, stoop, lift heavy objects (often up to 50 lbs), and stand or walk continuously during shifts.
  • Ability to lift heavy gear, push/pull heavy loads, and work outdoors in demanding, elevated, or tight spaces.
  • Meticulous accuracy when reading labels, verifying part numbers, and executing stock rotations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to coordinate with supervisors, pickers, and truck drivers to ensure operations run seamlessly.
  • The ability to prioritize tasks, meet strict deadlines, and maintain workflow efficiency.
  • Ability to operate overhead cranes and jib cranes.
  • Requires frequent repetitive movements.
  • Ability to work outside for periods of time.
  • Able to communicate effectively with others.

Education/Experience: 1–3 years experience; can work independently, operates material-handling equipment, operates indoor cranes/jib cranes, yard dogs and understands inventory procedures

  • High school or General Educational Degree (GED)
  • Prior warehouse / material handling experience required.
  • Crane experience preferred.
  • Prior Rigging experience preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Forklift experience required.

Physical Activities & Requirements:

  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by position, location and/or customer.
  • Ability to lift heavy gear, push/pull heavy loads, and work outdoors in demanding, elevated, or tight spaces.

Working Conditions:

Warehouse and/or manufacturing facility environment may not be air conditioned.
