Job summary

QuidelOrtho is seeking a Material Handler II to support in-plant logistics in Athens, Ohio. The role handles loading, unloading, and transactional material movements under GMP guidelines and uses warehouse equipment to keep inventory accurate and shipments on schedule.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, forklift certification, and experience in a warehouse setting with strong computer skills. OSHA/Safety training and a proactive attitude are valued in this fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Prior experience in a GMP or regulated environment preferred.
  • Forklift certification and ERP experience are desirable.
  • Strong computer skills including basic Word/Excel

Responsibilities

  • Process material transactions and fulfill internal and external requests for receipt, delivery, and shipment.
  • Operate warehouse equipment and comply with GMP and inventory control protocols.
  • Perform cycle counts and support inventory accuracy and improvements.
  • Pack and ship products, generate air bills, and label boxes correctly.
  • Train others in warehouse functions and participate in process improvements.

Job description

The Role:

At QuidelOrtho, we’re advancing the power of diagnostics for a healthier future for all. Join our mission as our next Material Handler II. Under direct supervision, this role is accountable for executing routine distribution operations that encompass the loading, unloading, relocation, and transactional handling of materials to facilitate efficient in-plant logistics. The incumbent must demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and the capacity to perform effectively in a dynamic, high-throughput environment. This role will be located onsite in Athens, Ohio.

The Responsibilities:
  • Accurate and timely processing of material transactions and fulfillment of internal and external requests related to the receipt, delivery, and shipment of goods.
  • All activities are conducted in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and established inventory control protocols to ensure traceability, regulatory adherence, and operational integrity.
  • Adheres to all safety training and safety requirements including the use of required PPE.
  • Follows all standard operation procedures and GMP guidelines.
  • Operates warehouse powered equipment such as sit down LP lift, stand up reach lift, walkie stacker and energized pallet jack.
  • Support and perform inventory counts relating to physical inventories and cycle counts.
  • Actively participates root cause analysis to correct inventory discrepancies and support process improvements.
  • Coordinates flow of materials from warehousing to the production floor and facilities.
  • Assures accurate counting, staging and storage of materials and supplies.
  • Accurately executes inventory transactions within the ERP in a timely manner.
  • Performs manual and clerical duties related to shipping, receiving, storing, issuing, and delivering a variety of materials, equipment, and supplies.
  • Participates in the effective training of other employees in all warehouse functions including but not limited to shipping, receiving, and cycle counting
  • Participates in and sometimes lead process improvement activities.
  • Picks, packs and ships products for shipments.
  • Packages product and labels boxes with appropriate labels
  • Able to identify, pull and match the correct protocol and passage sheets for all products where required.
  • Ability to specify box requirements based on order size.
  • Ability to generate air bills in both Fed Ex and UPS café systems including hazmat documents.
  • Follows IATA and 49CFR regulations that govern the shipment of hazmat and DG materials via air or highway.
  • Keeps work area organized and clean.
  • Carries out duties in compliance with established business policies
  • Informs leadership of all issues and concerns that may impact workflow and/or worker safety.
  • Continually displays a positive attitude toward the organization and co-workers.
  • Backup for Inventory Control duties as needed
  • Perform other duties & projects as assigned.
The Individual Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • This position is not currently eligible for visa sponsorship.
  • Preferred: Previous experience in a GMP environment preferred
  • Previous forklift certification preferred
  • Previously trained in basic warehouse equipment
  • One year of related experience in a warehouse/stockroom environment utilizing material handling equipment and computerized inventory control system preferred
  • Intermediate computer skills including Word, Excel and transaction data entry
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Basic math skills
  • Intermediate knowledge and understanding of cycle count procedures
  • Preferred lean/continuous improvement experience in a distribution and/or manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on experience shipping products via common freight carriers
  • Hands-on experience supplying materials to production work orders
  • Strong time management skills, ability to function efficiently with a focus on safe practices
  • Demonstrates commitment to complete work in accordance with QuidelOrtho’s Quality Management System, supporting ISO requirements, FDA regulations, and those put forth by other regulatory agencies
  • Understands and is aware of the quality consequences and device defects that may occur from the improper performance of their specific job.
  • Preferred ERP system experience
Key Working Relationships:
  • Interacts professionally with all levels of warehouse staff.
  • Facilitates team interactions and communicates with department team leaders and supervisors.
  • Actively supports QuidelOrtho’s team efforts.
  • Contributes successfully in a team-based work environment, participating in meetings, reviews, team huddles, and metric reviews
The Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics are representative of a manufacturing, laboratory, and warehouse environment and includes handling of viral and bacterial hazards, potentially hazardous chemicals, as well as infectious or potentially infectious bodily fluids, tissues and samples.

The Physical Demands:
  • Position requires ability to lift up to 50 lbs. or more at least 35 % of the day on a regular basis.
  • Walking, standing, and climbing for long periods of time are routine to accomplish tasks in this role.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May operate a forklift approximately 65% of the time.
