Job summary

Veolia North America is seeking a HazMat material handler to prepare hazardous waste for incineration in a safe, efficient manner. You will extract materials, repackage per process plans, and ensure proper documentation and inventory control.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, basic math skills, and training in material handling. Competitive hourly pay and comprehensive benefits accompany this position.

  • Ability to perform basic math, use formulas, read charts and interpret measurements.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble boxes and stage materials for processing and repackaging waste into charge boxes for incinerator.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment and maintain environmental protection.
  • Break down and extract waste materials from vendor containers and dumps into mixing pan.
  • Process materials into solids, mixes, and/or slurries and repackages into charge boxes per plan; weigh charges to meet specs.
  • Record all material processed to maintain in-process inventory using electronic scanners.
  • Shrink-wrap charges; move to incinerator dock for burning.
  • Consolidate material from drums into roll-off containers for incineration.
  • Reclaim vendor drums for recycling and crush drums not reusable.
  • Dump waste hoppers and clean the process area; maintain cleanliness in department.
  • Change out air supply banks for clean air in PPE as required.
  • Maintain complete inventory of PPE and department supplies.
  • Communicate with leadmen and on-coming shift crews as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Purpose

Performs duties required to prepare hazardous waste materials for incineration in a safe and efficient manner; breaks down and extracts material from various containers and repackages per process plan for feeding into the incinerator.

Primary Duties /Responsibilities
  • Assemble boxes and stage all necessary materials for processing and repackaging waste into charge boxes for incinerator.
  • Suit up with proper personal protection equipment and other necessary equipment for environmental protection.
  • Break down and extract waste materials (including hard solids that may require jackhammer) from various vendor containers and dumps into mixing pan.
  • Process materials into various combinations of solids, mixes and/or slurries and repackages into charge boxes per process/plan; weighs all charges to meet, process, plan specifications.
  • Record all material processed to maintain in-process inventory data using electronic scanning devices.
  • Shrink-wrap charges; move to incinerator dock for burning.
  • Consolidate material from drums into roll-off containers for incineration.
  • Reclaim vendor drums for recycling and crush drums that are not re-usable.
  • Dump waste hoppers and clean process area and maintain cleanliness around department.
  • Change out air supply banks (provides clean air source for personal protective suits) as required.
  • Maintain a complete inventory of personal protection equipment and other department supplies.
  • Communicate with all leadmen and on-coming shift crews as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education / Experience / Background
  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Add, subtract, multiply and divide decimals and fractions, simple use of formulas, charts, use adjustable measuring instruments where interpretation is required.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Ability to communicate through reading and writing
  • Trained in the use of material handling equipment
