Job Overview
The COS Material Handler/Driver is responsible for receiving, filling, shipping products accurately and efficiently, ensuring safe transport and timely arrival of products to customers and store locations. The role may include various warehouse functions such as receiving, order fulfillment, product picking, wrapping, packing, stock replenishment, customer “will call,” and inventory cycle counts. Drivers must maintain a valid driver’s license and comply with all state and federal regulations.
Responsibilities
- Operate basic power equipment (electric pallet, walkie rider, sit‑down forklift) safely to locate, stack, and move products.
- Receive product by unloading trucks using forklift or pallet jack.
- Inspect freight for damage, verify quantities against packing lists, and complete necessary paperwork.
- Ensure products are labeled with verified bar codes and Johnstone stock numbers.
- Pick, pack, and stack orders to minimize damage, scan items, and file paperwork.
- Document hazardous material shipments and complete required paperwork.
- Prepare orders: palletize, wrap, load trucks, place packing lists on last skid, and file paperwork.
- Maintain accuracy and efficiency standards and follow all SOPs.
- Participate in inventory cycle counts and other projects.
- Assist in maintenance of warehouse machinery and equipment.
- Maintain a safe work environment, wearing protective gear and following safety rules.
- Keep required certifications for hazardous materials, forklift, etc.
- Communicate professionally with customers and coworkers.
Driving Responsibilities
- Maintain positive customer relationships through timely delivery.
- Serve as key contact for customer delivery expectations.
- Operate company vehicles safely per DOT and company standards.
- Keep truck clean and perform routine inspections and maintenance.
- Load/unload trucks, verify deliveries, and prepare routes.
- Drive box trucks to customer sites or store locations.
- Maintain radio/supervisor contact for delivery instructions.
- Report delivery and safety issues immediately.
- Record sales/ delivery information and complete manifests.
- Return vehicle at day's end, verify fuel, log driver info, and secure vehicle.
- Return receipts, invoices, and necessary paperwork.
- Perform other assigned duties.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7 am – 5 pm, Rotational Saturday 7 am – 12 pm.

Education and Experience
- Required: High School Diploma/GED; 1+ years truck driving experience (26‑ft vehicle or larger) or 1 year operating Johnstone vehicles under supervision; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience operating forklift and other warehouse equipment safely and competently.
- Preferred: 6+ months warehouse or distribution experience, preferably in HVAC/R or related field.
- Experience with picker, RF scanner, and inventory management systems.
- Knowledge of HVAC wholesale industry, principles, and practices.
- Previous experience with OSHA and safety regulations.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record and eligibility to drive commercial motor vehicle under FMCSA regulations.
- Forklift certification required, or willingness to obtain on the job.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Utilize technology to complete tasks (GPS, mobile POD devices, RF equipment, ERP software).
- Perform basic math and read mapping applications accurately.
- Work safely in all job tasks.
- Operate delivery vehicles and power equipment (forklift, pallet jack, cherry picker, lift gate).
- Lift, push, pull, and maneuver large or heavy items safely.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems and order picking processes.
- Follow instructions and procedures.
- Organize and prioritize work.
- Attend to details and complete routine paperwork.
- Work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong customer service skills, with tact and diplomacy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- English proficiency required; multilingual skills valued.
Physical Demand
The employee must sit, stand, and walk on a concrete floor for much of the workday, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift and carry up to 50 lb. Driving duties involve prolonged sitting and vibration. The role requires near, distance, peripheral, and color vision.

Compensation
Regular Driver’s License Salary: $19 – $21 per hour
CDL License without Hazmat Endorsement: $21 – $25 per hour
CDL License with Hazmat Endorsement: $25 – $30 per hour
