Material Handler

As a Material Handler, you will be responsible for loading, unloading, processing, and storing hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials at a permitted waste treatment facility with supervision.

Essential Functions & Requirements
  • Prioritize health and safety by adhering to policies, processes, and maintaining safe practices at all times
  • Load, unload, and process solid and liquid waste safely in accordance with Company, federal, state, and local regulations/rules
  • Operate a forklift and Bobcat with attachments, as well as brooms, shovels, production machines, palletizers, tractors, ladders, and stairs
  • Attach appropriate labels and tags to products and packages
  • Pack finished goods into correct packages, pails, and place finished goods on designated pallets
  • Direct liquid waste through a system of pumps to tanks for storage
  • Perform basic spill cleanup and housekeeping duties as directed
  • Perform chemical compatibility checks to prevent reactions and other issues
  • Utilize barcode system equipment to document inventory activities
  • Review laboratory data to determine proper handling and disposal of materials
  • Utilize Department of Transportation (DOT) knowledge to label inbound materials and for storage and shipping of containers to other sites
  • Use proper equipment to remove samples of materials for analysis and compatibility checks
  • Operate a hydraulic bailer for cardboard and other materials
  • Keep operating areas, walls, pipes, and floors in a clean and safe condition
  • Utilize knowledge of EPA, DOT, OSHA, and permit regulations
  • Maintain an understanding of Heritage Coding and labeling systems for container management
  • Safely utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) such as Boots, Gloves, Suits, Eye/Ear Protection, and Respirator
  • Take on additional duties as assigned to support the team and organization
Education
  • High-school diploma or equivalent (preferred); one year of steady work history may be substituted
  • 24/40 hour HAZWOPER Certification (preferred)
Experience
  • 1+ years of related experience (preferred)
Competencies
  • Ability to develop a working knowledge of EPA, DOT, and OSHA regulations, along with industry practices
  • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs in outdoor environments during a 12-hour shift
  • Ability to wear full PPE, including a respirator
  • Regular and predictable attendance
