Job summary

BlueScope Coated Products, LLC is seeking a Material Handler to safely move and stage material for production at the paint line and to prepare packaging materials for finished coils. You will verify identification tickets and ensure coils are undamaged, working with Maintenance, Operations and Quality Control.

Requirements include a High School Diploma, forklift experience, and ability to lift up to 75 pounds.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 6+ months forklift experience preferred.
  • 12 months overhead crane experience preferred.
  • Ability to read safety rules and procedures.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare materials for packaging and shipping finished coils.
  • Package finished coils safely and move to designated storage.
  • Verify finished goods have identification tickets and are not damaged.
  • Quarantine non-conforming material and notify Quality Control as needed.
  • Follow Quality and Environmental Management System principles and cooperate with Maintenance and Operations.

The Material Handler is also responsible for preparing necessary materials for packaging of finished coils. In addition to those primary functions, the Material Handler ensures that finished coils are properly identified with a coil identification ticket and are stored properly in a designated location.Key Focus AreasResponsible for preparing materials to be used for packaging and shipping of finished coils.Responsible for packaging finished coils in a safe manner and moving those coils to a designated location for finished goods.Responsible for verifying that finished goods (coils) are properly identified with an identification ticket prior to moving them to a storage area.Responsible for verifying that finished goods (coils) are not damaged or visibly non-conforming prior to moving them to a designated storage area.Responsible for quarantining non-conforming material (using the HFI process) and notifying Quality Control when non-conforming conditions exist.Responsible for understanding and complying with the fundamental principles associated with the Quality and Environmental Management System in place.Communicates daily with internal personnel from Maintenance, Operations and Quality Control in order to help resolve any problems and help achieve company goals.Required Qualifications & Experience: To be considered for this position, you must possess the following qualifications:High School Diploma, or experienceDesired Qualifications: To be considered an ideal candidate, you should possess some or all of the following qualifications:6+ months forklift experience desired12 months overhead crane experience preferredLanguage Skills:The ability to read and comprehend documents including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and simple correspondence. Also, the ability to communicate information in small group situations to other employees.Mathematical Skills:Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as fractions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.Reasoning Ability:The ability to apply common sense understanding to perform work instructions that are furnished in written, oral or diagram form. The ability to solve problems which, involve multiple variables in a standard situation.Other Skills & Abilities:Incumbent is required to drive a forklift operate an overhead crane and use various power tools. The incumbent must be trained and capable of assuming the position of payoff operator when necessary. The incumbent should also be capable of recognizing metal defects.Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand; sit; bend; stoop; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance. The employee will be required to be capable of lifting a minimum weight of 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close-up and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee performs near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme cold or heat.
