Job summary

HARIBO of America, Inc. in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin is seeking a Material Handler to move products, packaging and equipment within the facility using pallet jacks and forklifts.

You will serve as the SAP subject matter expert in the packaging area and partner with support functions to minimize downtime, quality issues, and losses through problem solving and a continuous improvement mindset. Responsibilities include SAP data entry for incoming/outgoing materials, training others on SAP

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 1 year working experience, preferably in manufacturing.
• Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); SAP a plus.
• Must be able to operate electric or manual pallet jacks and forklift.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for incoming and outgoing materials; enter data into SAP.
• Serves as SAP subject matter expert; train others on system requirements.
• Follow all safety PPE and food safety practices.
• Operate forklift and pallet jack for material movement.
• Inspect and stage raw materials, packaging, chemicals and other supplies; complete SAP entries.
• Ensure finished goods are documented for shipment and properly stored.
• Coordinate scrap materials; support production planning; fix material flow issues.
• Record keeping and reporting; communicate with next shift.

Job description

Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the Material Handler will be responsible for transporting products, packaging, and equipment through facility with the use of material handling equipment. (I.e. pallet jack, forklift) and distributes them within the facility. The Material Handler serves as the SAP subject matter expert in the packaging area on this shift assigned. The Material Handler will partner with support functions to identify and resolve unplanned downtime events, quality, safety, cost, and other losses attributed to the area, using problem solving techniques and a continuous improvement mindset.

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for incoming and outgoing materials for the areas assigned, ensuring timely and accurate entry into SAP.
• Serves as the SAP subject matter expert, training, and coaching others on the system requirements.
• Follow all required work safe practices. This would include wearing of all required PPE in designated areas, confined space safety, safe chemical handling, fall restraints, etc.
• Responsible for food safety, pre-requisite programs and food quality related to designated area.
• Report any food safety and food quality related issues to management immediately.
• Operates forklift and/or pallet jacks during routine performance of duties.
• Receives, inspects, and stages raw materials, scrap, packaging materials, chemicals, and other supplies into the assigned area, completing SAP entries as necessary.
• Removes finished products from the production areas ensuring proper identification, banding, and labeling to meet customer specifications, completing SAP entries as necessary.
• Responsible for replenishing supplies in assigned areas.
• Reviews production planning schedule to determine materials needed on the areas supported.
• Ensures finished goods are properly documented for shipment.
• Stages and loads finished goods and materials in accordance with warehouse and production planning schedule.
• Coordinates all processed scrap materials at bins and hoppers. Bands and stores materials. Loads trucks as necessary.
• Conducts inspection of and routine preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Conducts inspection of materials used for packaging and inspects trailers and air bags.
• Resolve any changes in product flow, equipment malfunctions, shortages, or deviations from specifications, escalating issues to the Production Supervisor, maintenance or other operators as necessary.
• Performs record keeping duties as required under the direction of management.
• Communicates pertinent information to next shift.
• Performs clean-up and other housekeeping duties proactively.
• Initiates, reviews, and follows all standard operating procedures (SOPs) for area of responsibility.
• Ability to handle stress and to interact with others to establish and maintain a positive and productive work environment and minimize personal conflicts.
• Recognizes waste streams and minimizes waste generation, through prudent use of materials, proper disposal and segregation as directed during training. Understands and practices proper accumulation and storage requirements for wastes.
• Complies with environmental regulations when using, dispensing, or handling hazardous and non-hazardous materials and wastes.
• Responsible for training and coaching others in the assigned areas.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent (HSED or GED) required.
• Minimum of one (1) year of working experience, preferably in a manufacturing setting.
• Requires computer skills with basic knowledge of Microsoft programs such as: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. SAP a plus.
• Requires basic mathematical skills to be able to add, subtract, multiply, divide, work with percentages, and have basic knowledge of algebra as well as make fine adjustments in equipment settings.
• Must be able to operate electric or manual pallet jacks and forklift.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Must be flexible with work scheduling as well as overtime.
• Previous experience working in a food manufacturing plant preferred.
• Requires teamwork ability; works well with others and communicates effectively with all associates.
• Requires the ability to train and coach others for success.
