Job summary

Smurfit Westrock is seeking a Material Handler in Winston-Salem to assemble materials for orders, receive goods, and maintain safety and quality in the warehouse. You will operate forklift equipment, organize storage, and document shipments using the Victory system.

A high school diploma, forklift certification, and English fluency are required, with prior warehouse experience preferred. The role is full-time, with Monday–Friday shifts 3pm–11pm, occasional overtime, and a competitive benefits

Responsibilities

• Move materials and load/unload using forklift and other handling equipment.
• Receive, sort, and store incoming products in the warehouse.
• Document and record shipments and returns in the Victory system.
• Maintain safety and cleanliness of the warehouse.
• Assist with inventory counting and organization as needed.
• Coordinate deliveries and communicate with supervisors on issues.

Opportunity summary:

As a Material Handler you are responsible for all phases of assembling materials for customer orders, receiving new and returned products, and maintaining safety and quality standards within the warehouse.

• $19.25/hr
• $.50/hr shift differential
• Schedule: M-F / 3p-11p overtime and weekends as needed

How You Will Impact Smurfit Westrock Packaging Solutions

• Moving controls, devices, and levers to drive forklifts; transfer materials, unloading, processing, loading and storage areas.
• Move outgoing product using hand truck, forklift, or other material handling equipment, in accordance with all safety policies, to loading dock.
• Receive, sort and place incoming products in appropriate warehouse location.
• Document and record any customer return as required.
• Record amounts of material shipped or received in Victory computer system.
• Mark materials and product with Victory inventory codes.
• Notify Supervisor, General Manager or Office Manager of any product, safety, or customer concerns.
• Assist with general counting of inventory.
• Open all containers, crates or bales as required to sort and maintain stock.
• Organize the warehouse for cleanliness and safety at all times.
• Sweep, mop, and perform other routine maintenance.
• Maintain all safety standards, including wearing protective clothing and eyewear as required.
• Maintain all quality indicators for operations by verifying product quantity/quality before delivery.
• Keep the warehouse accessible and safe for branch staff and visitors.
• Coordinate last minute or unscheduled deliveries will be necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.

What You Need To Succeed

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Forklift Certified
• One or more years’ experience as warehouse clerk preferred.
• Fluency in English required, verbal and written.
• Basic computer literacy preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

• Perform job duties in severe weather conditions: heat, cold, rain, etc.
• Walk for distances of 100 yards repeatedly and without assistance.
• Lift 50 pounds and without assistance or equipment
• Utilize all material handling equipment without assistance.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time as a primary job responsibility.
• Observance of established safety guidelines in conducting physical work activity duties.
• Wear protective equipment as required.
