Job summary

Ryerson is seeking a Material Handler Coordinator to assemble material for shipment or machine work based on orders and specifications. You will participate in a registered apprenticeship during onboarding and contribute to safety, quality, and productivity on a daily basis.

Ideal candidates have metals/warehouse experience, basic crane or forklift exposure, and comfort using tape measures, micrometers, and calipers. Team players with good computer skills fit well in this role at Ryerson.

Qualifications

• Reading, math, inspection, and measurement skills are evaluated during onboarding.
• Experience in metals or warehouse setting is required.
• Crane and forklift experience are a plus; ability to use measuring tools is essential.
• Must be a team player and eligible for apprenticeship onboarding.

Responsibilities

• Select material from specific heats or per instructions on orders.
• Unload and receive material, including weighing, counting, and size checks.
• Identify by color, heat, and test numbers; organize into stock racks.
• Record information on receiving tickets or other documents.
• Maintain safety, quality, and productivity standards for each task.
• Fill in for absent positions as needed on a daily basis.
• Other duties as assigned and may change.

As a Material Handler Coordinator at Ryerson, you will be responsible for assembling material for shipment or machines in accordance with specifications and instructions on orders.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Select material from specific heats or for physical condition in accordance with instructions on orders
• Unload and receive the material, which includes weighing, counting, and checking sizes.
• Identify by color, heat, and/or test numbers. Organize into stock racks or designated areas.
• Record necessary information on receiving tickets or other documents
• Maintain safety, quality, and productivity standards of each job assignment.
• Fill in for absent positions as qualified, excluding maintenance, as needed on a daily basis
• All other duties as assigned or duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice

Requirements

• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment - evaluates your reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
• Experience working in metals or warehouse setting
• Crane, forklift, and good computer skills are a plus
• Must be able to use measuring tools, specifically a tape measure, micrometer, and a caliper
• Must be a team player
• Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding
