Job summary

TAPCO is hiring for a Material Handler in Brown Deer, WI. The role centers on receiving, storing, packing, and shipping items with strong emphasis on accuracy, safety, and adaptability in a fast-paced warehouse environment.

You will work 1st shift, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, with on-the-job training for stand-up and other forklifts. Growth opportunities and comprehensive benefits are included.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Operate needed warehouse equipment as assigned.
  • Counts and verifies items against records.
  • Use WMS to process orders and inventory data.
  • Follow safety procedures and PPE.
  • Retrieve products and assemble customer orders.
  • Package items and apply shipping labels.
  • Unload and load shipments.
  • Ensure outgoing shipments meet specifications.
  • Train and adapt to role changes as needed.

This is not a Forklift Operator position. This position is 95% actively moving on your feet and 5% on a forklift.

The Material Handler position encompasses multiple aspects of warehousing, and here at TAPCO we will train you in multiple areas such as picking, packing, small pack processing, receiving, and freight.

What you will accomplish as a Material Handler at TAPCO

The DC Material Handler position is responsible for accurately and safely receiving, storing, packaging, and shipping all product entering and leaving TAPCO. This role requires flexibility to adapt quickly to change and a desire for growth. This position plays a key role in TAPCO’s prime metrics that feed directly into the companywide gainsharing program. Material Handler Iwill have a broad knowledge of DC tasks, performing some at high level. Cross trained with the ability to switch roles when needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate needed warehouse equipment as assigned.
  • Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records
  • Uses computer or handheld to utilize WMS system to look up, verify data, process sales orders or purchase orders related to incoming and outgoing orders
  • Follows all building safety procedures and PPE
  • Retrieves product from warehouse locations and assembles customer orders
  • Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containers and inserts items into containers, using spacers, fillers, and protective paddingAffixes shipping labels on packages or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons
  • Attaches identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers
  • Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, follows established procedures to reject damaged items, records shortages, and corresponds with shipper and supervisor to rectify damages and shortages
  • Stocks items into proper locations
  • Load/unload trucks for shipments
  • Examines outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge/Skill/Ability
  • Must be able to read, write, and interpret English instructions
  • Operate forklift and other powered equipment
  • Ability to present information and respond to questions from groups of employees, suppliers, and customers
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables

  • Able to lift up to 70 lbs
  • Able to remain calm in stressful situations
  • Computer skills – Basic knowledge and ability to look up and enter data

Required Experience
  • 2 + years’ experience in a related role or in a distribution center environment
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 - 3 years forklift experience loading / unloading trucks
  • Experience using an Inventory Control System
