Job summary

McKenna Labs Inc. is seeking a Material Handler to manage receipt, storage, movement, staging of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods in a GMP-compliant contract manufacturing facility.

Responsibilities include inspecting materials, updating ERP/WMS records, FIFO/FEFO storage, supporting production lines, operating forklifts, and ensuring safety and traceability. The role requires forklift certification or ability to obtain it and on-site work with flexible shifts.

Job description

The Material Handler is responsible for the accurate receipt, storage, movement, staging of raw materials, packaging components, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished goods within a contract manufacturing facility producing personal care and over-the-counter (OTC) pharmaceutical products. This role ensures materials and finished goods are handled safely, efficiently, and in compliance with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices), quality standards, and regulatory requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Carry out responsibilities in compliance with company policies, work procedures, and federal, state and local laws. Comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), and health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Receive incoming raw materials, packaging components, and supplies
  • Verify shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and receiving documentation
  • Inspect materials for damage and report discrepancies to appropriate personnel
  • Accurately enter inventory transactions into ERP, WMS, or inventory management systems
  • Store materials in designated warehouse locations following FIFO/FEFO inventory practice
  • Pick, stage, and deliver raw materials and packaging materials to production lines according to production schedule
  • Transport materials using forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment
  • Return unused materials from production and reconcile inventory transactions
  • Perform cycle counts and assist with physical inventory activities
  • Ensure proper labeling, identification, and traceability of materials and products
  • Move finished goods from production areas to warehouse storage locations
  • Load and unload trucks while ensuring product integrity and shipment accuracy
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse environment
  • Follow GMP, SOP, OSHA, personal care and over-the counter (OTC) manufacturing standards, and company policies
  • Assist with investigations and inventory discrepancy resolution as needed
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to warehouse operations and inventory control
  • Assist with connecting lines to totes that feed filling equipment
  • Remove unused product from totes and arena totes then transfer to appropriate container for storage
  • Remove rejected and/or unused pallets from production floor and transfer them to the appropriate area for disposal or storage
  • Gather corrugate waste and disposes it in the recycling bin
  • Perform tasks with safety in mind for self and others
Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience operating forklifts and other powered industrial equipment
  • Basic computer skills and experience with inventory management systems.
  • Ability to accurately complete documentation and inventory transactions.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification
  • Experience using ERP systems such as Deacom, SAP, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar platforms
  • Knowledge of GMP, inventory control, and lot traceability requirements
  • Ability to apply judgment and understanding to carry out instructions provided in written and verbal format
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Maintain a positive and productive relationship with co-workers and others with whom the position may have contact
  • Must be able to work onsite and support flexible shifts and overtime as production requires

  • Work is performed primarily in an active manufacturing environment with exposure to chemicals, fragrances, dust, noise, varying temperatures and humidity, moving mechanical equipment, and periods of cold and high heat temperatures.
  • Required to stand, walk, climb stairs and ladders, bend, stoop, reach, and use hands and arms for extended periods.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally and assist with the safe movement of drums, totes, and pallets using appropriate material-handling equipment.
  • Required to wear all assigned PPE, which may include safety glasses or goggles, hearing protection, gloves, hairnets, beard covers, lab coats or smocks, slip‑restricted footwear, and respiratory protection where required.

The compensation range for this role is $19.00 – $26.50 per hour. Compensation is commensurate with level of knowledge, education, skills, and experience applicable to the position.
