Job summary

The Salvation Army in York, PA is seeking a warehouse associate to support thrift operations, move merchandise, and assist in sorting and processing donations in a busy yard and store environment.

You will maintain cleanliness, follow safety rules, operate a forklift when trained, and provide courteous service to donors and customers while supporting work-therapy goals at the Adult Rehabilitation Centers.

Qualifications

• Ability to speak and understand English for effective communication with supervisors, employees, beneficiaries, and customers.
• Good customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Keep work area clean and in order at all times.
• Ensure the safe and expeditious movement of merchandise in and out of warehouse in cooperation with other warehouse personnel.
• Do not allow any items to be set aside for any individual.
• Do not allow any sales to be made in the warehouse or dock area.
• Do not allow unauthorized personnel in the warehouse or dock area. Responsible for loading and unloading of truck assigned and others as requested.
• Provide assistance to Thrift Store personnel when delivering items to ensure proper placement and location within the store.
• Serve all customers and donors in a courteous and efficient manner.
• Handle all donations with care.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the dock, warehouse, bathrooms, sidewalks, and parking areas daily.
• Safeguard all donated materials and assigned equipment.
• Assist as required with sorting room operation.
• Cross train in all sorting room functions under the guidance of the Sorting Room Supervisor.
• Assist in cleaning and general maintenance of sorting room area.
• Categorize and box seasonal clothing, bric, and shoes.
• Sort and clean all saleable merchandise daily as required.
• Operate forklift as needed, after training and certification, observing safety regulations.
• This position will support the work therapy program component of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers by providing beneficiaries with an example of professional conduct and work habits.
• Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor, Administrator, or other management.

The Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Centers make a difference in people's lives. The in-residence rehabilitation program focuses on basic necessities with every man or woman being provided a clean and healthy living environment, good food, work therapy, leisure time activities, group and individual counseling, and spiritual direction.
