Overview
Material Handler at MedStar Health in the Washington, DC-Baltimore area.
Primary Responsibilities
- Receives, inspects, unpacks and verifies quantities received against packing slip or purchase order for items/supplies delivered. Accepts or rejects delivery and shelves/stores received items.
- Processes inventory documentation related to the storage and distribution of items, including receiving reports, general stock requisitions, and return to stock credits. May enter items received into a computerized inventory system and check back‑orders via computer or terminal.
- Counts items on exchange carts or supply shelves manually or with a handheld computer, uploads/downloads inventory information, and removes damaged, overstock, or expired inventory according to policy. Participates in periodic physical inventories.
- Pulls items from bulk stock to restock shelves, ensuring items are correctly labeled, numbered, and that sterile supply integrity is preserved. Rotates stock according to established protocol.
- May make stock record entries, including consumption data and quantity in storage, to help establish stock/par levels, and informs supervisor of shortages.
- Checks off and files completed requisitions.
- May issue, distribute, or deliver items to or within the Wellness and Care Center (WHC).
- Assists with or completes the packaging, shipment, and documentation of goods returned to vendors.
- May inventory and restock supplies in ancillary locations, such as shoe covers and caps/hats for OR or SPD.
- Catalogs items and checks on back‑orders using a computer terminal or personal computer.
- Breaks down and discards boxes; maintains the work area(s) clean, orderly, and safe.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required, or a minimum of 3 years of directly relevant work experience may substitute for the educational requirement.
- 0 to 6 months of relevant experience required.
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic addition and subtraction.
- Ability to follow basic oral and written instructions.
Compensation
USD $18.54 – $26.25 per hour.
