Job summary

Lumbermen’s, headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is seeking a Material Handler at our Walker, MI facility. You will assist pulling and preparing customer orders, perform final quality checks, and help ensure timely delivery in a safety‑minded team environment.

This role offers a $300 annual clothing allowance and ESOP participation, along with medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401(k), and other benefits.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Prior warehouse experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings and measurements.

Responsibilities

  • Unloading incoming freight, verifying product against packing lists and sorting by destination.
  • Assist in pulling slabs and sorting for production.
  • Account for and stage incoming deliveries.
  • Assist Production Manager in moving parts to branches.
  • Keep shop and supplies in stock and maintain cleanliness.
  • Support other shop members with safe, efficient workflow.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

Based out of our Walker, MI facility, the Material, the person in this position would assist pulling and preparing customer orders, performing final quality checks, and ensuring timely delivery. Day-to-day responsibilities include:

  • Unloading incoming freight, verifying product against enclosed packing lists, sorting material by end destination and putting away excess stock
  • Assist in pulling slabs and sort for production
  • Accounts for and sorts incoming deliveries and stages them appropriately
  • Assist Production Manager in facilitating parts from the shop to the appropriate branch/division
  • Assists in keeping shop and supplies in stock
  • Assists the rest of the shop team in terms of shop cleanliness and maintenance
  • Assists other shop members with moving tops and basic shop work flow

This position offers a $300 annual clothing allowance to offset costs for work apparel, protective footwear, and PPE.

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • High School diploma/GED required
  • Prior warehouse experience is preferred

  • Ability to read a tape measure and understand dimensions
  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with fellow employee owners

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to operate a Hilo (training available)
  • Ability to do physical labor including lifting of up to 100+ lbs.
