Job summary

Maple Donuts, LLC is seeking a reliable Material Handler to join our on-site team in Spry, PA. You will move skids, assist packaging, and help maintain accurate production records during shifts.

Responsibilities include stocking pallets, labeling, coordinating with shift leads, and ensuring safe, compliant operation of the packing lines in a fast-paced bakery environment. A high school diploma or GED and forklift experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• Requires a high school diploma or GED; or 1–3 months of related experience and/or training.
• Must pass forklift test and maintain license with periodic observation.
• Basic math, reading, and writing skills are expected.

Responsibilities

• Move skids of finished product to the freezer put away station and wrap as required.
• Maintain Production and Material Handler Report records and ensure labeling matches inventory.
• Ensure consistent supply of good pallets and separate damaged pallets from lines.
• Set up next shift with good pallets, ingredients and packaging materials.
• Gather and stage ingredients for easy access during the shift.
• Communicate tasks to packing area and coordinate with shift leads.
• Total case count at end of shift and verify against reports.

Job description

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Employee is required to take an initial forklift test and will be observed at least every three years to maintain license.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: The Employee must have the ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. The Employee must have the ability to write simple correspondence. The Employee must have the ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: The Employee must have the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY: The Employee must have the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Must have ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

COMPUTER SKILLS: Basic computer skills are desirable but not required for this level at this time.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representatives of those that must be met by an Employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Employee is required to stand and reach with hands and arms; frequently required to walk, bend and lift up to 50 pounds. Employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. Must be able to climb or balance. Employee must be able to speak and hear. Employee is required to move skids from production areas and set up production and packing lines. Employee will be working in different environments from hot to cold, during the shift and may be required to wear a coat and gloves for protection. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Employee is required to take an initial forklift license test and will be observed at least every three years to maintain license. Employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud and hearing protection is mandatory in all parts of the facility except offices, break rooms and warehouse. Employee will be exposed to variation of temperature from ambient air temperature to -20o F.

KEY DUTIES

• 1. Move skids of finished product away from stacking position to the freezer put away station. Wrap all skids from top to bottom by hand or by specified equipment.
• 2. Keep an accurate record on the Production and Material Handler Report form. Write skid number and quantity on report. Ensure that stacker has attached appropriate labeling and numbering of each skid. Confirm that pallet quantities, product label and pallet tracking stickers all match before inventory is put in the freezer.
• 3. Ensure that the stacker has consistent supply of good pallets. Place broken ones in separate stack area away from lines.
• 4. Ensure that next shift is setup with good pallets, ingredients and packaging materials.
• 5. Gather and stage ingredients for easy access during the shift.
• 6. Communicate your tasks away from the packing area. Ensure that the material handler lead/packing line leader knows where you are and when he/she can expect your return.
• 7. Total case count at the end of shift and match with stacker reports. Sign the stacker report verifying report is correct.
• 8. At the direction of the packing lead or production supervisor, ensure that "ON HOLD" product is properly marked with four hold tags (one on each side) and placed in freezer.
• 9. At the end of the shift or week, all Material Handlers are required to make sure ingredients, corrugated and items used for production are returned and properly stored.
• 10. Complete an assessment walk through at beginning of shift to look for damaged items, loose stretch wrap, unleveled pallets, lot rotation codes, cleanliness, pallet supplies, loose or cut material straps, etc.
• 11. Put all powered pallet jacks on charge when not in use.
• 12. Any torn bags of ingredients must be put in a bag and properly marked as to what it is.
• 13. Comply with all safety rules. Notify supervisor of any safety issues.
• 14. Follow all CGMP’s.
• 15. Clean all assigned areas and pallet jacks.
• 16. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor/manager.
