Job summary

Valmont Industries, Inc. is seeking a Material Handler 2 to transport products and materials within manufacturing areas and maintain storage as directed by procedures. The role requires operating at production stations, loading/unloading, inventory integrity, and adherence to safety standards.

Primary duties include moving materials, receiving shipments, and supporting continuous improvements. Candidates should have forklift certification, the ability to work overtime, and familiarity with

Qualifications

  • Ability to accurately perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Previous Forklift certification or the ability to acquire a forklift certification.
  • If applicable based on location, ability to operate overhead cranes and acquire overhead crane certification.
  • If applicable based on location, ability to operate hand and banding tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and interpret work instructions, drawings, and/or blueprints.
  • Previous experience using a tape measure and gauges to accurately measure parts and materials.
  • If applicable based on location, ability to work outside in extreme heat or cold.
  • If applicable based on location, must be accurate in logging inventory transactions.
  • Ability to work overtime when required for business needs.
  • Ability to physically lift, push or pull up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Operate with safety devices and wear mandatory PPE.
  • Lead by example to promote a safety-minded environment.
  • Prioritize safety, quality, delivery and cost in daily work.
  • Supply workstations with materials from storage locations.
  • Locate and gather parts for production.
  • Place materials in proper storage inventory locations.
  • Label boxes with part descriptions and quantities as needed.
  • Receive incoming material shipments.
  • Load and unload trucks as needed.
  • Report material damages and shortages to supervisors.
  • Verify inventory levels and assist with cycle counts where applicable.
  • Support continuous improvement within Production.
  • If applicable, use overhead crane to load/unload machinery.
  • Other duties as required and/or assigned.
  • Galvanizing sites: prepare, process and store materials before/after galvanizing; inspect fixtures and hooks for safety.
  • Follow PPE protocols and environmental regulations.

Starting pay: $21.23/hour
Full time hours, Monday - Thursday 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM (+ Overtime as needed)

A Brief Summary of This Position:

TheMaterialHandler2 isan individual contributor. This person must be a highly driven individual thatisresponsible fortransporting products and materials within the manufacturing areas andmaintainingmaterial storageas directed by manufacturing and inventory control procedures.This position will alsoperformmiscellaneous material handling, as needed.

Essential Functions:

  • Utilize all safety devices,wear all mandatory personal protective safety equipment,and adhere to all Valmont safety policies.

  • Lead by example to promote and nurture asafetyminded environment.

  • Operate with proper priorities, safety first, quality, then delivery and cost

  • Supply manufacturingworkstationswith materials from storage inventorylocations.

  • Locate and gatherparts.

  • Place materials in their proper storage inventorylocation.

  • Write part descriptions and quantity on outer boxes, as needed.

  • Receive incoming material shipments.

  • Load and unload trucks, asneeded.

  • Report material damagesand shortagesto Lead, Shift Supervisor,Manufacturing,OperationsManager &/or Plant Manager

  • Verify material and product inventorylevels; if applicable based on location, alsoassistwith cycle counts.

  • Support improvement efforts and seek continuous improvements within the Productiondepartment.

  • If applicable based on location, useoverheadcrane to load/unload machinery.

  • Other duties asrequiredand/or assigned.

Galvanizingsites only:

  • This individual will prepare, process and store materials before and after the galvanizing process. Key duties include hanging and unhanging parts as well as cleaning up parts.

  • Inspect andidentifyproduction fixtures, chains, and hooks to ensure proper repair or discarding of unsafe items

  • If applicable based on department, perform paddling functions at the kettle including the use of air guns.

  • If applicable based on the department, the Material Handler may work around chemicals such as acids, caustics, and zinc used in the galvanizing process. Safe handling procedures, proper PPE use, and compliance with all federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulationsisrequired.

  • If applicable based on the department, the individualis required towork safely while wearing the necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which includes the use of a respirator or Powered Air-Purifying Respirator (PAPR). Compliance with OSHA standards requires the successful completion of a medical questionnaire,trainingand a respirator fit test, which maynecessitatetrimming or removing facial hair that interferes with the proper seal of the respirator.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

  • 6 months on-the-job experienceoperatinga forklift within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • A person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.

  • Inventory control experience.

  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Outlook,Exceland Word

  • Ability to solve problems with high attention to detail and work in a fast-paced environment subject to specific deadlines.
