Job summary

Silgan Plastics in Seymour, CT, seeks a safety-conscious team member to promote and enforce site safety standards. You will follow GMP guidelines, wear PPE, perform daily area inspections, participate in production and safety meetings, and report injuries or unsafe conditions to supervision.

The role requires adherence to lockout/tagout procedures, proper use of safety equipment, and knowledge of emergency exits and evacuation procedures, contributing to a strong product safety culture.

Responsibilities

• Promote safety and working safely throughout the facility, inspecting work area daily.
• Adhere to Silgan Safety Policies & Standards, No Tolerance Policy and Product Defense Security.
• Read and understand all Safety Rules in the Employee Handbook.
• Wear all PPE; GMP required gear.
• Contribute to Product Safety culture by following GMP guidelines and Good Documentation practices.
• Be aware of emergency exits and evacuation procedures; know Tornado Shelter locations.
• Access SDS online and use properly.
• Do not operate equipment without proper training and authorization; follow LOTO procedures.
• Never remove or bypass machine guards while machines are operating.
• Be cautious of lift trucks and moving equipment.
• Report injuries or incidents to supervisor immediately.
• Understand Safety START card program and how to complete a Start Card.
• Follow good housekeeping guidelines in the Employee Handbook.
• Attend daily safety/production meetings for assignments and safety updates.
• Read and understand Silgan BOM, Specifications, Job Safety Analysis, and other job-related docs.
• Ask for help before performing unsafe tasks; perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Major Responsibilities

• Promotes safety and working safely throughout the facility to prevent injury to self and co-workers, addressing unsafe conditions & behaviors, Inspects work area daily.
• Adhering to all Silgan Safety Policies & Standards, Silgan Plastics No Tolerance Policy and Product Defense Security.
• Reading and understanding all "Safety Rules" items as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
• Wearing all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). GMP required gear.
• Contribute to our Product Safety culture, by following the GMP Guidelines and Good Documentation practices.
• Being aware of all Emergency Exits and knowing procedures for Emergency Evacuation as well as location of Tornado Shelter and Evacuation Assembly Area.
• Accessing and searching for SDS (Safety Data Sheets) online and how to utilize properly.
• Knowing not to operate any equipment or perform any work without the proper training and authorization to do complete the task safely. Always following proper LOTO lock out/tag out procedures.
• Never Remove or Bypass machine guards and NEVER while the machine is in operation.
• Being cautious and aware of lift trucks and moving equipment.
• Reporting all injuries or incidents to your supervisor immediately.
• Fully understanding and supportive of the Safety START card program and knowledgeable in how to complete a Start Card (S Safety, T Target, A All Personnel and, R Relies on, T Teamwork).
• Understanding the good housekeeping guidelines in the Employee Handbook.
• Attend daily 2-6-2 or production meeting according to job title during shift for job assignments, safety updates, and/or specific meetings or training as posted on bulletin boards.
• Reading and understanding specific information pertaining to your job duties and classification (i.e., Silgan BOM) Specifications, Job Safety Analysis, Work Instructions, Plant Memos, etc.
• Always asking for help before completing a task or job duty that is unsafe or you are unsure of the proper way to complete.
• Perform other duties assigned by the Supervisor or Manager.
