Responsibilities

  • Locate containers or folders on shelving using pull lists or reports; work up to 15' high with pulpit ladder.
  • Remove containers from shelving, verify pull list accuracy, and report discrepancies.
  • Place containers on streamliners, ensure proper orientation and visible identifying numbers.
  • Move records to Disposal Review Area and palletize containers for disposal; shrink wrap.
  • Validate manifests, shelve non-disposable records that are relocated, and inform Quality on inspection readiness.
  • Retrieve batched requests, sign out batches, and record times.
  • Locate requested files, pull and label them, and audit folders post-batch.
  • Retrieve documents for scanning, prepare for scanning, and verify image quality.
  • Use handheld devices for basic data entry in spreadsheets and daily totals.
  • Perform other general warehouse labor, records management, or admin duties as assigned.

Position Title: Material Handler

Compensation: Base: $20.89/ H&W: $5.09

  • Shift 1 – 6:00 – 2:30

Position Summary

The Material Handler is responsible for safely and efficiently moving, storing, and distributing materials within a warehouse/records storage environment, ensuring records are properly classified, stored, retrieved, and disposed of according to established guidelines. General duties include removing boxes from shelving units, placing boxes on shelves or pallets, shrink wrapping, general warehouse labor tasks, and general administrative functions associated with these tasks. Additional duties include pulling specialized references and/or refiling documents following specific protocols and general administrative functions associated with these tasks.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Locate containers or folders on shelving utilizing the location information listed on pull list or other provided reports. Containers/folders can be on floor or on shelving up to 15' high requiring the use of a pulpit ladder.

  • Remove containers from shelving, check for missing and/or charged out containers, verify that the pull list is accurate, mark pull list and report discrepancies where needed; initial and deliver documentation to POC.

  • Place containers or folders on streamliners in order, facing the same direction and with identifying numbers visible.

  • Move records to Designated Disposal Review Area.

  • Palletize Containers for Disposable Records label, stack, shrink wrap.

  • Confirm space requirements, load, and transport records to assigned location, validate manifest and shelve non-disposable records that are being relocated, verify accuracy, and inform Quality when inspection is ready.

  • Retrieve batched requests. Sign out batches in the appropriate logbook, recording pertinent information relative to batch being processed and record starting time.

  • Locate requested file/folder on reference request; search box, confirm if request is for a single or a multi-volume file, pull file(s), add pulled file marker, if file/document is not in box/file, report that it is "Not-in-File" or report that it is "Charged-Out." Audit folders and non-fulfilled references requests upon batch completion. Sign in completed batches in the appropriate logbook, recording the time of completion. Clearly identify file/folders and stage for auditing; sign-in completed batches in the appropriate logbook, recording time of completion.

  • Retrieve documents from containers, prepare documents for scanning by removing fasteners and verify order. Verify hardware settings, resolution, and convert paper to digital images, verify image clarity by visual inspection, rescan problem images and return documents to containers. Report issues to POC where needed.

  • Use handheld mobile to complete basic data entry in spreadsheets, assist with box list creation, data verification and record daily project totals.

  • Other general warehouse labor, records management, or administrative duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of related warehouse or distribution experience

  • NARA records management training

  • Experience operating a pallet jack, order picker, counterbalance, and/or reach and turret truck

  • Familiarity with shipping and receiving processes

Working Schedule:

  • Facility is open 6:00am – 6:00pm

  • Shift 1 – 6:00 – 2:30

  • Shift 2 – 9:30 – 6:00

Working Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Normally subjected to inside (warehouse) environmental conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Adherence to OSHA guidelines is mandatory, and as such, donning of protective equipment/gear may be required.

Physical Demands (including but not limited to):

Ability to physically lift boxes which typically weigh 30-50 pounds on a regular basis. Ability to carry boxes between 30-50 pounds for distances up to a quarter of a mile within a facility. Ability to safely climb and balance on ladders to obtain boxes which can weigh 30-50 pounds, from shelving up to 15 feet high. Ability to climb caster equipped ladders and maneuver on catwalks while handling boxes of records, typically weighing 30-50 pounds, which are stored up to 15 feet above the floor, regularly. Performance of work regularly requires walking, stooping, bending, reaching, and squatting to reach boxes. Position requires working long hours on one’s feet and walking several miles per day is routine. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus with corrections if necessary.
