Job summary

Victaulic is seeking a Lead Material Handler to supervise daily material handling and coordinate workflow within the warehouse. The role emphasizes safe practices, accurate inventory, and efficient material movement to support production schedules.

You will mentor teammates, train on safety and system processes, and drive continuous improvement in warehouse operations while adhering to OSHA requirements and teamwork standards.

Qualifications

  • Safe material handling and warehouse practices.
  • Accurate identification of material types, part numbers and inventory labels.
  • Operate forklift, pallet jack and other material handling equipment safely.
  • Maintain inventory locations and proper storage according to procedures.
  • Follow FIFO and inventory control procedures where applicable.
  • Effectively perform basic ERP/WMS transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Level 1 responsibilities: safe handling, receiving, moving, staging and issuing raw materials and production components.
  • Level 1: maintain organized inventory locations and storage, perform basic ERP/WMS transactions.
  • Level 2 responsibilities: coordinate movement of materials to support production schedules.
  • Level 2: perform inventory transactions in ERP/WMS, assist with cycle counts and audits.
  • Level 2: load/unload inbound and outbound shipments, monitor storage locations.
  • Level 2: assist in training new material handlers on procedures and best practices.
  • Level 3 responsibilities: lead daily material handling activities and coordinate workflow.
  • Level 3: mentor and train staff on safety, inventory accuracy, equipment operation and processes.
  • Level 3: support process improvements in warehouse organization and material flow.
  • Lead / Additional responsibilities: ensure OSHA compliance, participate in safety trainings, support inventory reconciliation.

Job description

Level 1 – Material Handling Fundamentals
  • Consistently demonstrate safe material handling and warehouse practices.
  • Properly receive, move, stage, and issue raw materials and production components.
  • Competently operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other approved material handling equipment.
  • Accurately identify material types, part numbers, heat numbers, and inventory labels.
  • Maintain organized inventory locations and proper material storage practices.
  • Follow FIFO requirements and inventory control procedures where applicable.
  • Perform basic ERP/WMS transactions accurately.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas in accordance with company safety standards.
  • Understand basic shipping, receiving, and inventory procedures.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance, communication, and teamwork.
Level 2 – Material Handling Proficiency
  • All Level 1 requirements.
  • Efficiently coordinate movement of materials to support production schedules.
  • Proficiently perform inventory transactions within ERP/WMS systems.
  • Assist with cycle counts, inventory audits, and inventory discrepancy investigations.
  • Proficiently load and unload inbound and outbound shipments.
  • Monitor inventory organization and ensure materials are stored in correct locations.
  • Assist in training less experienced material handlers on procedures and best practices.
  • Troubleshoot routine inventory and material flow issues.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of warehouse workflow and operational priorities.
  • Support shipping, receiving, and production teams to maintain operational efficiency.
Level 3 – Advanced Material Handling & Leadership
  • All Level 2 requirements.
  • Lead daily material handling activities and coordinate workflow within assigned areas.
  • Assist supervisors with assigning tasks and monitoring completion of operational priorities.
  • Mentor and train material handlers on safety, inventory accuracy, equipment operation, and system processes.
  • Assist with inventory investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Support implementation of process improvements related to warehouse organization and material flow.
  • Monitor staging areas, inventory locations, and workflow efficiency to minimize downtime.
  • Communicate operational concerns, shortages, and priorities effectively with leadership and production teams.
  • Promote accountability, professionalism, teamwork, and safe work practices throughout the department.
  • Serve as a role model for safety, quality, attendance, and operational performance.
Additional Responsibilities / Lead Material Handler
  • Ensure compliance with all Company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and required training sessions.
  • Assist with maintaining inventory accuracy and warehouse housekeeping standards.
  • Support annual physical inventory activities and inventory reconciliation efforts.
  • Assist leadership with continuous improvement initiatives and operational efficiency projects.
  • Complete required documentation, reports, and system transactions accurately and timely.
