Job summary

Amteck, LLC is seeking a Material Handler to oversee receipt, storage, and distribution of materials on large construction projects in Lexington, KY. You will coordinate with the Project Manager, Lead Superintendent, electricians, and foremen to ensure accurate kitting, staging, and on‑time delivery.

The role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication, and proven inventory control. Candidates should be able to operate forklifts and stay productive in high‑volume environments

Qualifications

  • Experience with receiving, logging, organizing materials and maintaining logs.
  • Strong inventory management and attention to detail.
  • Ability to track material movement and coordinate with field staff.
  • Experience in electrical construction/materials preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate material status with Superintendent and Procurement.
  • Build relationships with electricians to meet material needs.
  • Coordinate with Superintendents and Foremen on kitting and staging.
  • Ensure material storage areas are stocked per lead instructions.
  • Sign for deliveries and organize distribution to site locations.
  • Record received materials in the inventory system with dates, quantities, descriptions.
  • Identify shortfalls and propose logistics improvements.
  • Operate forklift and lull on site as required.

Job description

Primary Role

The Material handler is responsible for overseeing the receipt, organization, movement, and distribution of materials on large construction projects. This position requires effective verbal and non‑verbal communication, attention to detail, organization, and collaborative thinking. The role operates under daily direction from the Project Manager and Lead Superintendent.

Responsibilities
  • Effectively communicate with the Superintendent and Procurement Department regarding material status.
  • Build and maintain relationships with electricians to ensure material needs are met.
  • Coordinate closely with Superintendents, Foreman, and other disciplines regarding material kitting and staging.
  • Ensure material trailers, clam shell boxes, and cages are fully stocked, and quantities are identified based on specifications provided by the Lead Superintendent.
  • Ensure work package kits are built accurately and staged appropriately.
  • Sign for all materials upon delivery and organize and distribute accordingly.
  • Maintain shipment packing slips and balance items received from their corresponding Purchase Order.
  • Receive and fulfill field material requests, ensuring on‑time delivery to specified site locations.
  • Record received materials in the provided material inventory Excel file with appropriate dates, quantities, and descriptions.
  • Identify and communicate material shortfalls to the Lead Superintendent.
  • Identify and communicate opportunities for material logistics improvements to stay ahead of challenges on current and future projects.
  • Submit material quality discrepancy reports to the Lead Superintendent for further action.
  • Account for underutilized materials to be returned for credit.
  • Manage lay‑down yard and stock shelves to keep items organized.
  • Operate forklift and lull throughout the site.
Must Haves
  • Sound skills in receiving, logging, organizing, controlling material movement, and maintaining logs.
  • Inventory management experience with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, able to engage a wide variety of stakeholders and track down information as needed.
Preferred
  • Previous experience operating a forklift, lull, or all‑terrain forklift (trainable).
  • Understanding of receiving packing slips and reviewing purchase orders (comparing what was ordered with what was received).
  • Construction experience.
  • Knowledge of electrical material.
  • Minimum of four years in electrical construction or related material field.
  • Military experience (preferred).
Requirements
  • High school graduate, G.E.D., or equivalent studies/experience (preferred).

  • Proficiency with internet and Microsoft resources.
  • Ability to travel and remain on project sites for extended periods.
  • Ability to collaborate within a team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in non‑climate‑controlled environments.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to operate a forklift.
  • OSHA 10 Forklift License required; training provided upon hire.
