Job summary

A. O. Smith Corporation is seeking a reliable Material Handler in Appleton, WI to unload and stage materials, keep production lines supplied, and perform accurate SAP transactions. The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and timely communication to prevent downtime.

Industrial experience with boilers or water heaters is a plus; basic computer skills and a valid driver’s license are required, with on-the-job forklift certification provided. On-site position with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • Basic computer knowledge; valid state driver’s license; ability to obtain forklift license.
  • Experience with boilers, water heaters, or pool heaters preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Maintains a safe and organized work area.
  • 1–6 months related work experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Unload trucks and put away materials.
  • Load complete materials for shipment.
  • Pick, stage and deliver materials and components to the assembly line based on production schedules and work orders.
  • Ensure assembly lines are continuously supplied with required parts, packaging and materials to prevent line downtime.
  • Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks and other material handling equipment in compliance with safety requirements.
  • Accurately perform inventory transactions and material movements in SAP at the time of movement.
  • Verify material numbers, quantities and labels before staging or racking materials.
  • Monitor material levels at the line and communicate potential shortages to the Team Lead or Supervisor.

Job description

  • Ensure assembly lines are continuously supplied with required parts, packaging and materials to prevent line downtime
  • Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks and other material handling equipment in compliance with safety requirements
  • Accurately perform inventory transactions and material movements in SAP at the time of movement
  • Verify material numbers, quantities and labels before staging or racking materials
  • Monitor material levels at the line and proactively communicate potential shortages to the Team Lead or Supervisor
  • Store materials in designated locations following established procedures and 5S standards
  • Assist with cycle counts, inventory checks and resolution of inventory discrepancies as required
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area, reporting hazards or equipment concerns immediately
  • Follow all plant safety policies, work rules and PPE requirements
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business needs

Qualifications
  • Basic computer knowledge and navigation is helpful. Must have a valid state driver’s license and the aptitude to obtain a company forklift license prior to performing forklift duties.
  • Experience and knowledge of the commercial boilers, water heaters and pool heaters. Prior assembly experience is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills via written and oral
  • Promotes a safe and organized work area.

  • Prolonged periods of sitting/standing and frequent bending and reaching.
