Job summary

Mercedes-Benz Vans in Charleston is seeking a Logistics Engineer to develop and execute plans for warehouse layout, material flow, and inventory concepts, with a focus on lean operations and cost reduction.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement data-driven solutions that improve safety, quality, and delivery performance across series production. A Bachelor’s degree and automotive manufacturing exposure are preferred.

Qualifications

• Basic Lean Logistics, CI, standard work and standardization.

• Develop feasibility studies and business cases for logistics equipment and automation.
• Support supplier screening, RFQ development, and ramp-up.
• Prepare management presentations and assist workshops.

Job Overview

Develops and executes logistics plans to include warehouse layout design, material flow optimization, material presentation, inventory concepts and new-product readiness. Define efficient storage structures, supply concepts, and equipment, through data-driven planning methods. Support stable ramp-up, lean series operations, and scalable growth. Focus on reduced costs while ensuring safety, quality and delivery. Execute points of consumption changes to optimize manufacturing process.

Approach

Structured logistics planning approach from conception, planning, implementation, validation, to handover. Key focus areas: delivery, warehouse, storage, material route planning, transport/delivery concepts, and headcount/equipment calculations.

Hands-on (Go to the Gemba) professional combining analytical rigor with practical implementation. Translating manufacturing requirements into efficient logistics concepts.

Responsibilities

• · Coordinate with cross functional teams to align requirements and implement solutions to support series production through point of consumption changes.
• · Reduce process waste and costs while maintaining safety, quality, delivery performance, and operational stability.
• · Optimize warehouse layouts, storage structures, line-side supply, kitting, sequencing, direct delivery, and material flow concepts.
• · Conduct time studies for material handling processes to determine headcount requirements for delivery routes and parts receiving.
• · Evaluate continuous improvement opportunities, resolve non-routine issues, and implement sustainable solutions.
• · Develop feasibility studies, business cases, and benefit analyses for logistics equipment and automation solutions.
• · Support supplier screening, technical evaluations, RFQ development, equipment selection, SOP documentation, and ramp-up.
• · Prepare management presentations and assist in facilitating workshops.
• · Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• · Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related field. Or equivalent and relevant professional experience over multiple years within an automotive manufacturing setting.
• · Basic experience in automotive or large-scale manufacturing.
• · Demonstrated knowledge of material flow optimization, warehouse layout design, PFEP, line-side supply, packaging, and logistics equipment planning.
• · Basic understanding with Lean Logistics, CI, standard work and standardization.
• · Proficiency with Microsoft (Excel, Power BI, Copilot).
• · Problem-solving and communication skills.

Preferred Experience

• · Planning storage systems, material transport, and equipment.
• · Experience building dashboards, simulations, spaghetti diagrams, traffic analyses, or other visualization tools to support logistics decisions.
• · Multilingual capability is a plus, especially English, German, and Spanish
