Job summary

Conn Selmer, Inc. in Indiana is seeking a detail-oriented Instrument Technician for quality inspection and setup of musical instruments. You will inspect, adjust, play test, and prepare instruments for shipment, ensuring conformance to cosmetic and functional standards.

The role supports the South facility and collaborates with Quality, Manufacturing, Product Development, and Engineering teams. Requires 1+ year repair experience, strong instrument playing ability, and proficient English;

Qualifications

  • Musical Instrument Repair experience (1+ years), BIRT School Certification/Diploma preferred
  • Strong playing experience on one to two instruments required
  • Some repair knowledge, experience, and techniques on one to two instruments required
  • Experience or understanding of working with small tools, measuring instruments or parts
  • Proficient in the English language with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (e.g.: Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently as a self-starter with an expectation for positive results
  • A willingness to learn and thrive as part of a dynamic team of experts

  • Perform adjustments to instruments in order to achieve the standard for each product
  • Play test instruments
  • Assist with packaging finished products for shipment or presentation to customer
  • Assist other inspection responsibilities as necessary
  • Assists in developing plans and procedures to improve inspections and setupsAccepts, rejects, or quarantines products to pre-established standards and protocols
  • Flexibility to work in all areas of the facility as directed
  • Other duties as assigned by the facility quality lead or facility manager

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Inspect, grade, adjust, and play test one to two different instruments
  2. Adjusting and setting up different instruments to meet the “Play out of the Box” customer expectation
  3. Reporting on improvements to better the quality of the projects produced
  4. Inspect, grade, and adjust all trial and returned products
  5. Follow and uphold all processes and procedures to maintain the quality standards for cosmetics and instrument functionality
  6. Assisting the South facility in projects as well as reaching operational goals, and objectives
  7. Assisting the Quality, Manufacturing, Product Development, and Engineering team with technical input

SPECIFIC DUTIES

PRE-DETERMINED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Musical Instrument Repair experience (1+ years), BIRT School Certification/Diploma preferred

  3. Some repair knowledge, experience, and techniques on one to two instruments required, multiple instruments preferred
  4. Experience or understanding of working with small tools, measuring instruments or parts

  6. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (e.g.: Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to walk and/or stand for majority of shift
  2. Vision correctable to 20/20
  3. Ability to safely lift to 40 pounds unassisted
  4. Ability to perform repetitive work for a prolonged period
  5. Exposure to manufacturing environment including dust, noise, and vibration
  6. Frequent kneeling, crouching, bending, stooping, reaching, and pushing carts
