Job summary

Avis Budget Group is seeking an experienced Master EV Technician to lead advanced diagnostics and high-voltage repairs on next-generation EV and autonomous fleet platforms. You will mentor mid-level and entry-level technicians while ensuring safe, precise repairs.

Responsibilities include HV diagnostics, battery systems work, CAN/LIN and Ethernet troubleshooting, and software-driven calibration using OEM tools. On-site role based in Dallas, TX with shift premium potential.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years automotive service experience with EV systems.
  • ASE certifications preferred; advanced electrical knowledge is a plus.
  • Ability to diagnose high-voltage systems and mentor others.

Responsibilities

  • Lead advanced diagnostics and high-voltage repairs on EV/autonomous platforms.
  • Perform HV battery swaps, interlock checks, and BMS fault analysis.
  • Calibrate systems and validate post-repair functionality.
  • Mentor mid-level and entry-level technicians; ensure safety standards.
  • Execute firmware updates and software-driven diagnostics with OEM tools.

This initiative reflects our commitment to expanding beyond traditional rental services and advancing modern transportation solutions.As a Master EV Technician (Technician A), you will serve as a senior-level technical expert responsible for advanced mechanical, electrical, and high-voltage repairs across electric and autonomous vehicle platforms. You will lead complex diagnostics, perform system calibrations and module-level repairs, and act as a mentor and technical resource to mid-level and entry-level technicians. In this role, you will provide guidance and hands-on support to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient completion of complex repair procedures.What You’ll Do:Advanced Vehicle Systems & MechanicalDiagnose and repair complex mechanical and vehicle systems, including HVAC, chassis, suspension, and steering components, following OEM specifications.Troubleshoot and resolve NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) concerns using structured diagnostic processes.Perform subframe replacements, drive unit replacements, and other advanced mechanical repairs as required.Electrical, High Voltage & Safety SystemsDemonstrate competent electrical aptitude while diagnosing and repairing low-voltage and high-voltage systems.Perform high-voltage system diagnostics and repair, including HV battery swaps, interlock loop troubleshooting, and BMS fault code analysis.Execute high-voltage safety lockout/tagout procedures, including LV/HV isolation, in compliance with safety standards.Replace high-voltage components such as onboard chargers, charge ports, and related systems.Conduct advanced harness repairs, including cable, pigtail, and connector-level repairs.Diagnostics, Software & FirmwarePerform advanced diagnostics to identify and resolve system faults across vehicle control modules, including CAN/LIN and Ethernet networks.Troubleshoot moderate software and firmware issues using OEM diagnostic tools, with some basic understanding of Python and SQL.Perform firmware updates and validate proper system functionality post-update.Calibrations & System IntegrationConduct system calibrations following repairs or component replacements.Support ADAS-related calibration processes in alignment with OEM procedures and safety standards.Verify post-repair vehicle readiness through functional testing and validation.Thermal & Battery SystemsPerform coolant evacuation, refill, and cooling system diagnostics for batteries, power electronics, and cabin HVAC.Monitor battery degradation and manage HV battery discharge procedures safely and effectively.Perks You’ll Get:Access to Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and Disability insuranceEligible to elect other voluntary benefits including: Group Auto Insurance, Group Home Insurance, Pet Insurance, Legal Assistance, Identity Theft Protection, FSA, Accident Insurance, Critical Illness Insurance, and additional life insurance coveragesContribute up to $270 as a tax-free benefit for public transportation or parking expenses401(k) Retirement Plan with company matched contributionsEmployee discounts, including discounted prices on the purchase of Avis/Budget carsAccess to an Employee Assistance Program for services including counseling, financial and legal consultation, referrals for care services and moreWhat We’re Looking For:A minimum of 5 years of automotive service experience, including at least 3 years working with EV systems.ASE certifications (6+ of A1–A8) are preferred; flex considered for candidates with technical degrees and advanced coursework in electrical or mechanical engineering.Demonstrated experience with high-voltage diagnostics, module replacement, and advanced system troubleshooting.Strong understanding of battery management, CAN/LIN and Ethernet network communications, software-driven diagnostics, and calibration processes.Ability to work independently while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and documentation.Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead mid-level and entry-level technicians.Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, continuously stand, bend, reach, walk, sit and kneel frequently, enter, exit and drive vehiclesWork may occur indoors and outdoors depending on fleet needsThis position requires regular, on-site presence and cannot be performed remotelyWho We Are:Here at Avis Budget Group, you will be joining a team of 25,000 driven people, performing with purpose.
