Job description
We are seeking a Master Stylist who engages with guests, consults on hair care needs, and recommends products and services. The Master Stylist delivers quality professional services with an emphasis on the guest’s total look. This role supports the Experience Manager (SM) and Assistant Services Manager (ASM) with a focus on performance (service sales and productivity), people (guest service), and process (operating procedures and compliance standards). A passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and the ability to learn and communicate product knowledge are required.

- Perform hair services including design, cuts, color, texture, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing where applicable.
- Meet or exceed a weekly sales goal of $1,250 in hair services and productivity goals for service sales, while contributing to store goals related to retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink as defined by Ulta Beauty.
- Demonstrate products through guest demonstrations to drive sales and enhance guest service.
- Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives to deliver an exceptional guest experience.
- Stay informed on new and existing industry trends, products, and services and be knowledgeable about ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.
- Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
- Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate recommendations.
- Serve all guests, including walk-ins, in a timely and efficient manner.
- Collaborate with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a total-store guest experience.
- Establish professional relationships with peers and brand partners to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
- Share the benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app, with guests in the salon and salesfloor.
- Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for ongoing professional development.
- Know and comply with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
- Follow safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures and state board guidelines.
- Adhere to established service protocols to ensure a consistent and exceptional guest experience.
- Utilize booking and clientele systems to schedule return services and events.
- Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager to ensure guest readiness.
- Maintain outstanding store operational standards, including cleanliness of the salon, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, break area, and other assigned areas.
- Adhere to Ulta Beauty dress code and protect company assets with loss prevention practices.
- Execute other operational tasks as directed.
- Cosmetology license
- Previous relevant work experience is required
- Proficiency with latest salon techniques for haircutting, color, styling, texture, treatment, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing (where applicable) and an aptitude to develop skills across service categories.
- Proficiency with equipment and chemicals used for technical work.
- Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell professional hair care and makeup products.
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele.
- Work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Continuous mobility during shift.
- Continuous lifting and/or moving up to 10 lbs during shift.
- Frequent bending, reaching, and twisting during shift.
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Occasional coordination and manipulation of objects during shift.
