Job summary

Dawn Foods Ltd. in Louisville, KY is hiring a Maintenance Technician II to install, maintain, and repair industrial machinery in a 24/7 food manufacturing facility. The role emphasizes safety, problem solving, and cross‑functional collaboration with other departments.

You will perform preventive maintenance, electrical and mechanical repairs, welding, and CMMS logging, with a Wednesday–Saturday shift and overtime opportunities under UFCW contracts.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate’s Degree in Industrial Maintenance highly desired.
  • Minimum 3 years of maintenance experience in food manufacturing preferred.
  • Experience with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • PLC and HVAC knowledge is highly desired.
  • MIG/TIG/STICK welding capability highly desired.
  • Preventive maintenance experience essential.
  • Ability to read safety rules and manuals; write routine reports.
  • Effective communication with team and other departments.
  • Follow OSHA regulations (LOTO, PPE, confined space, heights).
  • Basic computer skills; familiar with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to perform basic math; possess a personal tool set.

Responsibilities

  • Repair forklifts as needed.
  • Log work hours in the CMMS system.
  • Ensure repairs comply with GMP/IFS/SOPs for food safety.
  • Assist Quality and Production in troubleshooting maintenance issues.
  • Address issues promptly and communicate with supervisors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Purpose and Overview

The Maintenance Technician II installs, maintains, and repairs industrial machinery. As a Maintenance Technician II, you will be responsible for safely repairing and maintaining industrial machinery, equipment, and electrical devices for a multi-line food manufacturing facility that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You will be responsible for keeping lines running, maintaining the equipment, and improving upon existing processes.

What does it take to be a Maintenance Technician II at Dawn Foods

Below are the minimum qualifications to be a fit for this job.

  • High school diploma or general education degree GED is required.
  • Associate’s Degree in Industrial Maintenance is highly desired.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of maintenance experience with food manufacturing is a plus, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have extensive experience and familiarity with electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Must be able to troubleshoot these systems and change components as required to repair inoperative equipment and return them to serviceable condition.
  • PLC and HVAC knowledge is highly desired
  • Must be able to MIG weld. Stick, TIG, and Oxy Acetylene welding ability is highly desired.
  • Ability to perform Preventative Maintenance such as lubricating, inspecting, and evaluating equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with fellow maintenance employees and members of other departments.
  • Must understand and follow OSHA regulations as they pertain to all aspects of maintenance, e.g., Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Confined Space, Working at Heights, etc.
  • Must have basic computer skills and be familiar with Microsoft Office
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations - add, subtract, multiply, and divide
  • Possess and utilize a personal tool set

  • Works closely with other departments to maintain an efficient operation
  • Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts
  • Performs preventative maintenance, lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery
  • Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as wiring and electrical components
  • Installs and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment
  • Repairs and replaces gauges, valves, and pressure regulators
  • Repairs and maintains the physical structure of the establishment
  • Operates cutting torch or welding equipment
  • Repairs forklifts as needed
  • Fabricates and repairs new or used equipment or machines
  • Asks questions to fully understand expectations
  • Follows up with management staff members to ensure alignment when needed
  • Assures that all repairs and preventative maintenance are done in compliance with GMP’s, IFS standards, and SOP’s to ensure food safety
  • Assists the Quality and Production teams in troubleshooting maintenance issues that may impact food safety or personnel safety
  • Logs work hours in the CMMS system

  • Answers floor calls to investigate and resolve issues
  • Communicates with Supervisor if the issue cannot be resolved in a timely manner
  • Addresses issues as they arise and responds to team members in a timely manner
