Job summary

Avis Budget Group in Norfolk, VA is hiring a Master Mechanic to perform standard and complex auto repairs on a diverse fleet with minimal supervision. You will diagnose engines, transmissions, exhaust, brakes, electrical, and onboard computers, and serve as a technical resource for other technicians to support shop performance.

This on-site role requires at least 3 years of experience, ASE certifications, a complete tool set, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of professional auto repair experience.
• Current ASE certifications (minimum 3), with the ability to acquire 2 additional ASE certifications within the first year.
• Valid driver's license.
• Must have complete set of tools for automotive repair and maintenance.
• Comfortable working in a mechanical shop with moderate to loud noise levels.

Responsibilities

• Perform standard and complex automotive repairs, including warranty work, on a wide range of vehicle makes and models with minimal supervision.
• Diagnose and repair engines, transmissions, exhaust systems, brakes, electrical systems, A/C, and onboard computers.
• Work on a diverse fleet of newer vehicles across multiple brands and technologies.

• Contribute to vehicle reliability, safety, and availability to ensure vehicles are ready for customers.

What You’ll Do:

• You will perform standard and complex automotive repairs, including warranty work, on a wide range of vehicle makes and models with minimal technical supervision.
• This includes diagnosing and repairing engines, transmissions, exhaust systems, brakes, electrical systems, air conditioning, and onboard computer systems.
• You will work on a diverse fleet of newer vehicles, giving you the opportunity to apply your skills across multiple brands and technologies.
• As a Master Mechanic, you may also serve as a technical resource for other technicians, providing guidance and sharing best practices to support overall shop performance.
• Your work plays a critical role in vehicle reliability, safety, and availability—directly impacting the customer experience by helping ensure vehicles are ready when customers need them.

What We’re Looking For:

• Valid Driver’s License
• Minimum 3 years of professional auto repair experience
• Current ASE certifications (minimum of 3), with the ability to acquire 2 additional ASE certifications within the first year
• Strong knowledge across ASE certification areas including, but not limited to: Engine Repair, Drivetrain/Axles, Suspension/Steering, Brakes, Electrical, Heating/Air Conditioning, and Engine Performance (Light Vehicle/Diesel)
• Comfortable working in a mechanical shop with moderate to loud noise levels
• Must have a complete set of tools required for automotive repair and maintenance
• Basic computer skills, including typing and data entry
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, continuously stand, bend, reach, walk, sit and kneel frequently, enter, exit and drive vehicles
• Must be 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States
• This position requires regular, on-site presence and cannot be performed remotely
• Previous Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) experience is preferred and considered a strong advantage
