Job summary

The City of Akron seeks a skilled Masonry Worker for constructing, repairing, and maintaining brick and stone structures. You will cut, dress, and set stone and brick, and work independently or supervise a helper as needed.

Responsibilities include shaping stone, spreading mortar, finishing joints, and handling cement and concrete elements. Requires knowledge of masonry practices and safety precautions.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited high school or GED and a minimum of three years of paid experience in masonry, or an equivalent combination of paid experience and training.
• Possession of or must obtain within 120 days of employment, a valid State of Ohio Class B Commercial Driver's License.
• Equivalency statement allows substitution of up to 50% of paid experience with related training.

Responsibilities

• Shape stone for setting using chisel and hammer.
• Spread mortar over stone and foundation with a trowel and set stone in place.
• Cut and plane curbs.
• Move stone into final position with mallet, hammer, or crowbar.
• Finish joints between stone with a pointing trowel.
• Mix cement and mortar.
