Master HVAC Technician – Marine Corp Base Camp Lejeune

EMI Service is hiring a Master HVAC Technician to support mission‑critical infrastructure at Camp Lejeune. Responsibilities include installing, modifying and repairing refrigeration systems, air‑conditioning and ventilation systems, and related control systems. The role requires advanced installation tasks such as assembly, testing, calibrating and adjusting environmental control systems.

Compensation: Total compensation package $77.16 per hour ($61.91 hourly plus $15.25 fringe benefits).

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair refrigerant systems including VRF systems, chillers, reversible chillers and CRAC units.
  • Cut, bend, thread, join and solder tubing or pipes to create complete refrigerant circuits.
  • Test joints and connections for leaks using leak detectors, vacuum pumps and hold tests.
  • Verify operation of components, connecting motors, compressors, controls, humidity controls and fans.
  • Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and wiring.
  • Add or remove refrigerant to achieve proper sub‑cooling and superheat.
  • Observe pressures and vacuums, adjusting controls for proper operation.
  • Wrap pipes with insulation batting and secure with cement or cable ties.
  • Install, repair and service air‑conditioners up to 1100 tons in warehouses, barracks and buildings.
  • Prepare work orders and cost material estimates.
  • Assist in training lower‑level workers in mechanical repair techniques.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent technical education.
  • 10+ years of advanced experience in commercial/industrial HVAC systems maintenance, repair, installation, and operation.
  • Knowledge of compressors, motors, burners, pumps, filters, ductwork, pipes, valves and refrigerant recovery systems.
  • Experience installing, calibrating, troubleshooting and replacing control systems.
  • EPA Universal Refrigeration License.
  • Valid driver’s license compliant with REAL ID Act or willingness to obtain one.
  • Pass pre‑employment drug screening and background check.
  • Regular, dependable attendance; available for overtime on evenings and weekends.
  • U.S. citizenship to access military installations.
  • Proficiency with safety, hazardous material handling and personal protective equipment.
Essential Skills
  • Standard practices, materials, tools and equipment for troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of commercial/industrial HVAC equipment.
  • Ability to perform single technical tasks and upgrade skills as needed.
  • Indoor air monitoring, design, construction codes and refrigerant handling criteria.
  • Safety issue awareness and practices in tool and equipment use.
Physical Requirements
  • Lift up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Use of hands, reach, communication and walking.
  • Prolonged sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting or stooping.
  • Climb ladders and work in confined spaces.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
