Job summary

Central Garden & Pet is seeking a detail-oriented Master Data Analyst to join its Enterprise Master Data team. This role ensures accurate creation, maintenance, and governance of customer and vendor master data across the Garden and Pet businesses, partnering with data owners to enforce standards and resolve quality issues.

You will manage data records in SAP, perform data-quality reviews, support migrations, and prepare metrics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, information systems, data analytics, computer science, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Two to four years of experience in master data, data operations, data quality, ERP administration, business operations, or a related discipline.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills including PivotTables, XLOOKUP, data validation, filtering, and analysis of large datasets.
• Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple requests and deadlines in a controlled environment.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain data requirements and resolve issues across technical and business teams.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications and virtual collaboration tools.
• Hands-on experience with SAP customer and/or vendor master data; experience with SAP S/4HANA or SAP Master Data Governance is a plus.
• Experience executing governed mass-maintenance scripts using automation tools like Precisely Automate Studio.
• Familiarity with data governance, data-quality controls, workflow management, and audit-ready documentation.
• Experience with Power BI, Tableau, SAP BusinessObjects, or another BI platform.
• Exposure to SQL, data reconciliation, process mapping, or continuous-improvement methods.
• Data stewardship and quality mindset; analytical problem-solving and root-cause investigation; customer focus and cross-functional partnership; process discipline, ownership, and sound judgment; adaptability and continuous learning.

Responsibilities

• Create, update, extend, block, and maintain master data records in SAP and connected systems according to approved requests and governance policies.
• Manage requests through workflow platform; validate required fields, approvals, documentation, and routing before processing.
• Apply data standards, naming conventions, hierarchies, reference mappings, and business rules across divisions.
• Perform recurring data-quality reviews and self-audits; document results and corrective actions.
• Investigate data issues, identify root causes, coordinate remediation, and escalate as needed to data owners and leadership.
• Partner with business data owners, Finance, Sales, Supply Chain, Procurement, Customer Service, and IT to clarify requirements and resolve requests.
• Support data migrations, system implementations, integrations, mass updates, testing, and post-deployment validation.
• Prepare operational metrics, exception reports, and trend analyses highlighting backlog, cycle time, data quality, and compliance.
• Maintain procedures, data definitions, job aids, and audit evidence; suggest improvements to workflows, controls, and user experience.
• Handle sensitive information with security, privacy, retention, and records-management compliance.

Central Garden & Pet is seeking a detail-oriented Master Data Analyst to join its centralized Enterprise Master Data team. This role executes accurate and timely creation, maintenance, and governance of customer, vendor, and related enterprise master data supporting the Garden and Pet businesses.

The analyst partners with business data owners and cross-functional teams to manage workflow, enforce data standards, resolve data-quality issues, and improve the controls and processes that keep enterprise data trusted, consistent, and fit for use.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Create, update, extend, block, and maintain master data records in SAP and connected systems in accordance with approved requests, service levels, governance policies, and internal controls.
• Manage requests through the designated workflow platform; validate required fields, approvals, supporting documentation, and routing before processing.
• Apply data standards, naming conventions, hierarchies, reference mappings, and business rules consistently across the Garden and Pet divisions.
• Perform recurring data-quality reviews and self-audits for completeness, validity, accuracy, consistency, timeliness, and duplicate prevention; document results and corrective actions.
• Investigate data issues, identify root causes, coordinate remediation, and elevate policy, control, or ownership concerns to data owners and Master Data leadership.
• Partner with business data owners, Finance, Sales, Supply Chain, Procurement, Customer Service, and IT to clarify requirements and resolve master data requests.
• Support data migrations, system implementations, integrations, mass updates, testing, and post-deployment validation as assigned.
• Prepare operational metrics, exception reports, and trend analyses that highlight backlog, cycle time, data quality, and compliance performance.
• Maintain procedures, data definitions, job aids, and audit evidence; recommend practical improvements to workflows, controls, and user experience.
• Handle sensitive business information responsibly and follow applicable security, privacy, retention, and records-management requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, XLOOKUP or equivalent lookup functions, data validation, filtering, and analysis of large datasets.
• Demonstrated accuracy, attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple requests and deadlines in a controlled environment.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, information systems, data analytics, computer science, or a related field; equivalent relevant experience may be considered.
• Two to four years of experience in master data, data operations, data quality, ERP administration, business operations, or a related discipline.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This role primarily works in an office or professional hybrid environment and regularly uses a computer, standard office applications, and video-conferencing tools. The position requires participation in remote and in-person meetings based on business and project needs.
