Job description

At Morgan & Morgan, the work we do matters. For millions of Americans, we’re their last line of defense against insurance companies, large corporations or defective goods. From attorneys in all 50 states, to client support staff, creative marketing to operations teams, every member of our firm has a key role to play in the winning fight for consumer rights. Our over 6,000 employees are all united by one mission: For the People.

Our Complex Litigation practice represents tens of thousands of clients each year in actions against some of the largest companies in the U.S. In recent years, we have successfully defended clients’ data privacy rights against companies like Capital One and Google, helped thousands of veterans pursue justice in litigation involving 3M, and secured meaningful settlements for individuals harmed by brand manufacturers of Zantac and by JUUL’s marketing and sale of nicotine products to minors.

Purpose

The Mass Tort Litigation Attorney will handle a range of litigation responsibilities, including drafting and responding to pleadings and motions, managing discovery, preparing clients and witnesses, coordinating expert and records development, and supporting depositions, hearings, and trial preparation as needed. The attorney will also partner closely with paralegals and case managers to maintain pre- and post-filing deadline control, ensure consistent work product across assigned matters, and drive timely, compliant deliverables in line with court orders, case management orders, and firm standards. Over time, high-performing attorneys may also have the opportunity to be considered for appointment to Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee (PSC) roles or other leadership positions in coordinated proceedings. This position can sit in any of our offices in the United States.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute litigation strategy for assigned mass tort matters in coordination with lead/case management counsel, including analysis of case themes, defenses, and case valuation considerations.
  • Draft, review, and file pleadings, amendments, and substantive motions (e.g., motions to dismiss, remand/jurisdiction, discovery motions, protective orders, and dispositive motions as appropriate).
  • Ensure compliance with applicable case management orders, scheduling orders, and local rules, including coordinating internal case plans to meet court-imposed deadlines and obligations.
  • Monitor and implement MDL/coordinated proceeding developments (e.g., bellwether selections, discovery directives, plaintiff fact sheet requirements) and translate them into case-specific action items.
  • Provide substantive direction to paralegals/case managers on litigation tasks (e.g., discovery support, record collection, filing support), and review work product for accuracy and completeness.
  • Identify and develop liability and damages proof, including medical record review/summaries, causation timelines, and coordination of supporting documentation needed for litigation positions.
  • Assess and recommend appropriate venue and jurisdiction for filing based on applicable statutes, residency, exposure/injury location, defendant contacts, and governing procedural requirements.
  • Support strategic filing decisions (including coordination with MDL/state coordinated proceedings where applicable) and ensure venue selection aligns with case theory and case management considerations.
  • Support settlement and resolution efforts, including case summaries, settlement packages, and coordinated client communications regarding settlement terms and next steps.
Qualifications
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to manage high-volume litigation and competing deadlines across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and internal teams.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal civil procedure, including pleadings, motion practice, discovery, and trial preparation
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, prioritize effectively, and adapt to shifting deadlines and case needs.
  • Professional judgment and discretion, including the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and litigation support staff; experience mentoring/delegating is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfort learning litigation technology/tools as needed.
Education and Experience
  • JD required
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience supporting litigation matters in a law firm or comparable legal environment.
  • Substantial experience with complex litigation strongly preferred.
  • Experience mentoring and supervising others strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience using CM/ECF, PACER, Westlaw, and Litify.
Licenses
  • Admission to at least one U.S. state bar required
