Summary
The Masonry Special Inspector is expected to perform all aspects of reinforced, pre-stressed and post-tension concrete construction, in conformance with Industry and GES’ quality standards and client schedules. The Masonry Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all pre-stressed and post-tensioned concrete construction activities comply with applicable codes, project specifications, approved plans, and quality assurance standards. This role requires a detailed understanding of the International Building Code (IBC), American Concrete Institute (ACI) standards, and International Code Council (ICC) Special Inspection requirements related to structural concrete and pre-stressed systems.
Essential Job Functions
- Perform field inspections of masonry, pre-stressed and post-tensioned concrete elements, including tendons, anchorage systems, concrete placement, curing, and stressing operations.
- Verify that all materials (cement, aggregates, reinforcement, pre-stressing tendons) meet project specifications and are approved for use.
- Observe and document placement of ducts, reinforcement, and pre-stressing strands to ensure proper alignment and spacing.
- Monitor concrete mixing, delivery, and placement operations, ensuring compliance with ACI 318 and project specifications.
- Witness and verify stressing operations, ensuring that jacking forces and elongations meet design requirements and tolerances.
- Review and verify tensioning operations and observe grouting of post-tensioned systems (if applicable).
- Document inspection results in a clear and concise manner; submit daily reports including photographs, field observations, non-conformance issues, and corrective actions taken.
- Coordinate with engineers, contractors, and project managers to resolve non-conformities and ensure project quality.
- Ensure work is completed in compliance with ICC Special Inspection requirements per IBC Chapter 17 and jurisdictional authority.
- Valid driver’s license and insurability under GES limitations.
- Participate in 1-2-1 discussions with the Field Supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education, Knowledge, and Skills Preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in structural concrete inspection, including pre-stressed and post-tensioned systems.
- Certified as an ICC Reinforced Concrete Special Inspector.
- Familiarity with IBC Chapter 17, ACI 318, PTI (Post-Tensioning Institute) standards, and applicable ASTM standards.
