Howmet Aerospace in Branford, CT is hiring a Masker Trainee - Weekend Crew to support masking of blades, vanes and other parts for jet engine components. This is a full-time weekend role with 5:00 AM to 5:00 PM Saturday and Sunday, plus one 12-hour day or two 6-hour days Monday through Friday, totaling 36 hours per week with pay for 40.

The position requires following work instructions, using masking materials, performing dry masking, and ensuring proper protection before next steps.

Job Summary

We are currently looking for a candidate to fill the role of Masker Trainee - Weekend Crew. The weekend schedule will be 5:00AM - 5:00PM Saturday and Sunday. In addition, there will be either one 12 hour day Monday through Friday, or two 6 hour days, Monday through Friday based on the candidate's preference. Worked hours will be 36 hours in total each week, with compensation for a total of 40 hours. This is considered a full-time position.

This position will perform a variety of masking procedures covering blades, vanes and other parts from OEM customers, in order to protect them from exposure to various in-house processes.

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs assignments utilizing a variety of masking tapes, hot waxes, liquid and powder solutions and fixtures as determined appropriate for each job.
  • Perform dry masking using powder, cups and a dry press machine to protect specific areas on parts per work instructions supplied.
  • Ability to follow instructions from internal routers, departmental operating manual and/or visual pictures as needed.
  • Use razor blades, flat and pointed diamond files, scalpels, sticks brushed, foot-operated syringe machine and fixed gauges to apply proper amounts and complete work in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Follow established procedures and as appropriate mixes binder to solution and adds thinner to obtain proper flow consisting of liquid mask.
  • Dip parts into solution as needed or uses hand held devices to apply liquid mask ensuring complete protection to specified area(s).
  • Procedures may call for filling internal crevices using powder or hot wax mask to specific parts.
  • Monitor activities and inspect own work to assure proper mask is applied, prior to releasing parts to next process on operation.
  • As parts are returned individual may be required to demask, remove wax and deburr parts as instructed.
  • As work is completed, move cartons into designated location for pickup.
  • Fill out all related paperwork, i.e., routers and/or internal records following standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to use proper and safe containerization methods for all hazardous waste.
  • Keep work area clean according to 6'S standards.
  • Adhere to all company safety rules and practices and wears protective equipment as directed.
  • Perform other job duties as needed or directed by management.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
  • Candidate must be able to read and write in English.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
  • This position entails access to export-controlled items and employment offers are conditioned upon an applicant's ability to lawfully obtain access to such items.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence or documentation.
  • Good math skills with the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Good organizational skills in maintaining a variety of records and reports.

Salary & Benefits

  • Starting salary $22.00
  • Weekend Crew Hours (5:00am - 5:00pm)
  • External hires are eligible for a $1,000 sign on bonus.
