Job description

The primary purpose of the Division Chief - Highway Hydraulics is to manage all major functions for the Office of Highway Development Highway Hydraulics Division. This position will supervise senior level professional engineers in the performance of engineering, design and preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates for highway drainage improvement projects. This position will be responsible for providing oversight of state staff and consultant support services performing design and technical services in the development and delivery of stormwater management, storm drainage, erosion/sediment control, stream stabilization/restoration and hydraulic design for SHA projects, maintenance activities, or private projects affecting SHA property. A critical job requirement of this position is to function as SHA’s top level expert in executing and/or directing highly complex technical aspects involved in hydraulic design and environmental permitting. This position is responsible for the overall management of drainage funds and for ensuring SHA compliance with National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permitting conditions for stormwater management and construction activities, and a variety of other state and federal environmental requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Possession of a Maryland Professional Engineer license, in the appropriate option, is required. Evidence of license must be presented at time of appointment.
  • Three (3) years of experience managing engineering projects as a licensed professional engineer.
  • Two (2) years of experience supervising the design and review of erosion, sediment, and stormwater management for transportation related improvement projects as a licensed professional engineer.
