Job summary

CU Boulder’s LASP is seeking a Deputy Project Systems Engineer to support the rapid delivery of Mars science payloads. The role collaborates with the Lead Engineer and payload teams to implement high heritage LASP payloads on a partner spacecraft for a 2028 launch.

Candidates should have demonstrated engineering experience in space missions and at least 5 years in aerospace systems engineering, with strong communication and multi-tasking abilities.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated engineering experience in space mission developments.
  • At least 5 years of aerospace systems engineering experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and handle competing priorities

Responsibilities

  • System Definition: identify requirements, define system structure, document designs.
  • Interface Management: develop interfaces and control documents, coordinate with specialists.
  • Change Management: track changes and assess impacts on interfaces.
  • Technical Resource Management: allocate mass, power, data, track usage.
  • Project Processes: develop configuration management and risk plans; coordinate anomaly handling.
  • Trade Studies: evaluate alternative technical solutions.
  • Specialist Discipline Integration: coordinate with reliability, contamination, and radiation analyses.
  • Communication: ensure cross-team information exchange and stakeholder meetings.
  • Technical Review: prepare materials for milestone reviews and external evaluations.
  • Subcontract Oversight: coordinate with external hardware and software providers.
