This is a software engineering role within the MarTech organization - not primarily a marketing-platform administration position. The engineer works across application development, databases, APIs, integrations, automation, data, and user experience to solve operational problems for marketers, sellers, analysts, and internal business teams.
The role requires an engineer who can understand the business workflow behind a request, determine the appropriate technical solution, and build software that is maintainable, secure, observable, and reusable.
Internal Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Application Engineering
Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain enterprise marketing applications and supporting services.
- Build intuitive user experiences for operational workflows used by marketers, sellers, reviewers, analysts, and business leaders.
- Develop backend application logic, database objects, APIs, workflow services, and integrations.
- Extend existing applications while progressively moving common capabilities into reusable services where appropriate.
- Diagnose and resolve application defects, performance issues, production incidents, and data inconsistencies.
- Refactor legacy implementations and reduce technical debt as applications evolve.
Integration Engineering
- Develop secure integrations with CRM, enterprise data sources, marketing systems, financial systems, analytics platforms, and internally developed applications.
- Build and consume REST APIs and other service interfaces.
- Implement batch, API-based, and event-driven data movement patterns as appropriate.
- Design integrations with appropriate validation, retry behavior, error handling, monitoring, and auditability.
- Maintain clear source-of-truth boundaries and avoid unnecessary duplication of business logic across systems.
- Create reusable connectors and services rather than isolated point-to-point integrations whenever practical.
Data Engineering & Modeling
- Design relational schemas and application data models supporting marketing workflows.
- Write and optimize SQL and database procedures.
- Map source-system data into shared business objects such as Account, Contact, Program, Campaign, Event, Nomination, Opportunity, and Activity.
- Build data-quality checks covering required identifiers, invalid states, freshness, duplicate records, and inconsistent mappings.
- Support entity resolution and cross-system identifier mapping.
- Partner with analytics and data teams to ensure application and reporting data can be reconciled to authoritative sources.
Workflow & Automation
- Translate manual marketing and operational processes into structured application workflows and automation.
- Build approval, intake, review, routing, notification, exception, and status-management capabilities.
- Identify repetitive manual activities that can be eliminated or simplified through software.
- Design workflow state models that remain understandable, deterministic, and auditable.
- Create exception-based workflows that automate routine processing while directing ambiguous cases to human users.
AI-Assisted Capabilities
- Develop AI-assisted features such as summarization, recommendations, intelligent search, duplicate detection, classification, and workflow assistance.
- Ground AI experiences in authorized enterprise data and application context.
- Implement appropriate human review for AI-assisted actions.
- Capture evidence, data provenance, and audit information where AI influences business workflows.
- Evaluate new AI tools and development approaches through prototypes and production experiments.
Security & Engineering Quality
- Implement secure authentication and authorization patterns in partnership with platform and security teams.
- Apply role-, region-, object-, workflow-, and field-level authorization requirements where necessary.
- Protect sensitive customer, commercial, employee, and financial information.
- Write maintainable, testable, well-documented code.
- Participate in code reviews and technical design reviews.
- Build application telemetry, logging, alerting, and integration monitoring.
- Maintain deployment scripts, runbooks, and technical documentation.
- Follow secure software-development and change-management practices.
Product & Business Collaboration
- Work directly with marketers, operations teams, business architects, analysts, and other users to understand operational problems.
- Convert business requirements into technical designs and implementation plans.
- Ask questions when requirements are ambiguous or introduce unnecessary technical complexity.
- Prototype solutions and incorporate user feedback.
- Explain implementation choices and technical tradeoffs clearly to non-engineering partners.
- Measure whether delivered technology actually improves the underlying process rather than simply shipping requested functionality.
Qualifications
Required
- 3+ years of professional software engineering, application development, integration engineering, data engineering, or comparable experience.
- Strong SQL and relational-database fundamentals.
- Experience developing backend application logic and working with APIs.
- Experience with at least one general-purpose programming or application-development language.
- Understanding of software design, testing, debugging, source control, and deployment practices.
- Ability to independently troubleshoot application and data issues across multiple systems.
- Ability to understand a business workflow and translate it into a maintainable technical solution.
- Strong written documentation and communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience with Oracle Database, PL/SQL, and Oracle APEX.
- JavaScript or TypeScript experience.
- Python experience.
- Experience building REST APIs and enterprise integrations.
- Experience with cloud services, data platforms, event messaging, or integration platforms.
- Experience with CRM, marketing technology, sales technology, and revenue-operations systems.
- Experience with identity and authorization patterns including RBAC or ABAC.
- Experience building AI-enabled enterprise applications or integrating LLM capabilities into existing products.
- Experience with analytics or BI data models.
- Familiarity with CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and production support.
What Success Looks Like
- Ships reliable software that solves meaningful operational problems.
- Understands the workflow and data behind the code rather than treating requirements as tickets.
- Builds components that can be reused rather than repeatedly solving the same problem.
- Produces applications that users can understand without extensive training.
- Leaves systems easier to maintain than they found them.
- Detects and resolves data and integration issues before users discover them.
- Balances speed with security, reliability, and architectural discipline.
- Can move between application code, SQL, integrations, data, and user workflows without treating those as unrelated disciplines.
