Description

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications andexperience, while also considering internal equity.

Employees in positions allocated to this classification areresponsible for the development and implementation of marketing andcommunication tactics that strengthen the university brand and/orprograms, and enhance fundraising and development effortsincluding, but not limited to: marketing analyzation, coordinationof marketing events, website design and management, social mediamanagement, and creating digital and print materials.

Examples of Duties
  • Researches and gathers information through interviews (in person,phone, email, or virtual) regarding university research, facultyand staff, students, programs, policies, events, alumni, and donorsto develop compelling stories and communications.
  • Plans, compiles, verifies, writes, edits, and publishesinformational and promotional content across multiple platforms,including websites, email marketing, social media, text messaging,interactive digital displays, newsletters, donor proposals, newsreleases, articles, and other marketing materials.
  • Creates, schedules, and manages content for interactive digitaldisplays and digital signage systems, ensuring content is accurate,visually engaging, current, and aligned with university andFoundation priorities.
  • Plans, coordinates, and executes digital communication and publicinformation campaigns, identifying appropriate audiences,communication channels, and distribution strategies to supportfundraising, alumni engagement, and university initiatives.
  • Provides communications expertise and project support to universitystaff in planning, developing, and managing strategic communicationinitiatives, marketing campaigns, and storytelling projects,including video and multimedia content.
  • Establishes and maintains effective relationships with mediarepresentatives, campus partners, alumni, donors, and otherstakeholders to support strategic communications and publicrelations efforts.
  • Assists in planning and coordinating press conferences, mediainterviews, photo sessions, video productions, and otherpromotional or public information events.
  • Reviews and edits communication materials to ensure accuracy,consistency, accessibility, and compliance with university brand,editorial, and style guidelines.
  • Supports emergency and crisis communications through contentdevelopment and implementation of communication protocols.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 1. Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism,radio/television broadcasting, web/digital media, public relations,or a closely related field.*
  • 2. One (1) year (12 months) of professional work experience inpublic relations, journalism, digital communications, or closelyrelated.*

Note: Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of theposition may be substituted for one (1) year (12 months) of workexperience.

Illinois Residency Requirement: Pursuant to the StateUniversities Civil Service System, out-of-state candidates mustestablish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the startdate for this position.

About Civil Service Examination/Testing:

The Civil Serviceexamination for this classification is based on your applicationmaterials and responses to the supplemental questions. Noparticipation other than submission of application materials isrequired from applicants that qualify to take the exam. If you meetthe minimum required qualifications for this position, yourapplication will move forward for examination/testing in which youwill receive a score calculated based on your education andexperience, and your name will be placed on the active employmentregister by exam score. This score will be emailed to the emailaddress noted on your application. After the application deadline,the names within the top three scores will be referred to thedepartment for interview.
