Job summary

AlixPartners is seeking a strategic, commercially oriented Business Intelligence Director for the Americas to lead the BI Center team across research, market intelligence, and client-driven insights. Based in a U.S.

office, this role partners with leaders to align research with the firm's commercial agenda and growth priorities. You will develop talent, oversee research outputs, and champion AI-enabled tools to improve productivity and decision making.

Qualifications

  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in business intelligence, market research, competitive intelligence, business development, consulting, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred in business, finance, economics, information science, data analytics, strategy, or a related field.
  • Proven leadership skills, including coaching, performance management, prioritization, delegation, and talent development with experience leading managers and developing high‑performing teams in a complex, matrixed environment.
  • Thorough understanding of research methodologies, business development support, market and competitor intelligence, and company and financial analysis and the proven ability to translate business needs into clear research.
  • Experience with research databases, market data tools, knowledge platforms, collaboration tools, and firm‑approved AI or automation technologies strongly preferred.
  • Experience managing research vendors, data subscription portfolios, third‑party research spend, renewals, usage reviews, cost allocation, and cross‑functional governance with Procurement, Legal, Risk, Finance, and IT.

About The Role

We are seeking a strategic, commercially oriented Business Intelligence Director to lead the Americas Business Intelligence Center team. This leader will oversee the managers responsible for industry and practice research, ensuring the function delivers high-quality insights, research, and market intelligence that support business development, client delivery, account growth, and firmwide priorities.

The Business Intelligence Director - Americas will partner closely with regional, industry, practice, Innovation, Marketing, and Business Development leaders to align research capabilities with the firm’s commercial agenda. This role will be accountable for setting direction, building trusted advisory relationships, developing talent, strengthening operating practices, and ensuring the Americas team consistently delivers insight-driven support that helps AlixPartners win and deliver memorable results. This will include leading the creation and adoption of generative AI tools.

The Business Intelligence Director - Americas is a full-time role based in New York, NY, Boston, MA, Dallas, TX, Southfield, MI, or Chicago, IL, and will report to Business Intelligence leadership. Paid relocation is not available for this position.

What You'll Do
Leadership and Team Development
  • Lead, coach, and develop managers across industry and practice research.
  • Set clear priorities, expectations, and success measures for the Americas Business Intelligence team, ensuring alignment with global Business Intelligence Center strategy and Americas business priorities.
  • Build a collaborative, inclusive, and high‑performing team culture that encourages curiosity, accountability, quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide thoughtful guidance, feedback, and development support to managers, helping them strengthen their leadership capabilities and grow their teams.
  • Promote effective resource planning, workload management, and prioritization across the function, especially during peak business development and client delivery periods.
Business Partnership and Strategic Advisory
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders across Americas industries, practices, geographies, Business Development, Marketing, and other corporate functions.
  • Translate business priorities into research and intelligence strategies that support growth, client impact, and differentiated market positioning.
  • Partner with stakeholders to identify the most pressing commercial, industry, competitive, and market intelligence needs and ensure the team delivers timely, relevant, and actionable insights.
  • Represent the Americas Business Intelligence function in cross‑functional forums, helping shape priorities, communicate capabilities, and reinforce the value of the team’s work.
Research, Market Intelligence, and Commercial Support
  • Oversee the delivery of research, including industry trends, market dynamics, competitor intelligence, company analysis, financial analysis, prospect identification, and account insights.
  • Ensure research outputs are practical, commercially relevant, and tailored to the needs of consulting teams, practice leaders, and client‑facing stakeholders.
  • Guide the team in providing high‑quality pitch, RFP, business development, and client delivery support across industries and service lines.
  • Identify opportunities to improve research products, repeatable deliverables, screening approaches, and intelligence workflows that increase efficiency and value for internal clients.
Innovation, AI, and Operational Excellence
  • Champion the responsible use of firm‑approved AI tools, automation, data platforms, and technology to improve productivity, enhance insight generation, and streamline repetitive workflows.
  • Partner with global Business Intelligence leadership to evolve operating practices, service models, intake processes, metrics, and reporting that demonstrate impact and improve the internal client experience.
  • Use data and stakeholder feedback to assess demand, quality, utilization, turnaround times, and team capacity, making informed recommendations to improve effectiveness.
  • Foster a test‑and‑learn mindset that encourages practical innovation while maintaining appropriate confidentiality, quality, and risk standards.
  • Contribute to global initiatives that strengthen consistency, collaboration, and knowledge sharing across region
Vendor, Subscription, and Research Spend Management
  • Participate in governance for managed data subscriptions, research tools, third‑party research providers, expert networks, and related vendor relationships.
  • Support subscription renewals, vendor performance, usage reviews, seat and module optimization, and renewal challenge processes to ensure spend is aligned with business value, utilization, and firm priorities.
  • Identify and execute opportunities to reduce underutilized spend, consolidate duplicative tools, improve vendor leverage, and redirect capacity or savings toward higher‑value business development and client support.

What You’ll Bring

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear narratives, presentations, and deliver clear and compelling recommendations for senior audiences.
  • Comfort leading through change, improving processes, and creating scalable ways of working across teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high‑priority initiatives simultaneously while maintaining quality, confidentiality, and responsiveness.

Employees will also receive a generous paid leave policy including vacation/personal time starting at 7.34 hours per pay period, sick time up to 80 hours annually, parental leave, and twelve holidays.

The salary range for this role takes into account a number of factors and is between $195,000/annually - $235,000/annually with eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus.
