Job summary

Hy-Vee, Inc. is seeking a Market Grille Express Clerk to keep a fast-paced counter running smoothly. You’ll take orders, answer phones, prep products, and help maintain a clean, stocked department with a smile.

This hourly role involves handling the register, assisting teammates, and providing friendly service during day, night, and weekend shifts. Training is provided; prior food service experience is a plus. The position emphasizes customer interaction and teamwork in a busy grocery setting.

Qualifications

• No education requirement; training provided.
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience; prior food service experience is a plus.
• Stand/walk for long periods in a fast-paced store kitchen environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and making every interaction positive.
• Take customer orders at Market Grille Express counter and answer the telephone promptly, providing helpful service including taking product orders.
• Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and prepare and replenish product as necessary.
• Pull product from the cooler or freezer to prepare for cooking and ensure an adequate food supply is ready and on hand.
• Handle food safely and review the status and appearance of food for freshness throughout your shift.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary work area at all times.
• Check in product, put product away, and review invoices as needed.
• Run the department register, receive payment, and make change where applicable.
• Remove trash, wash dishes, and maintain cleanliness as needed.
• Price and order product and deliver orders as needed.
• Work with coworkers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
• Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned.
