Responsibilities

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service and greet customers with a smile.
• Take customer orders at the Market Grille counter and answer the telephone.
• Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and replenish when needed.
• Pull product from cooler/freezer to prepare for cooking and ensure adequate stock.
• Handle food safely and monitor freshness at all times.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary work area throughout the shift.
• Operate the department register and handle payments.
• Remove trash and wash dishes as necessary.
• Price and order product and deliver orders as needed.
• Work with coworkers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Assist in other areas and uphold Hy-Vee policies and hygiene standards.
• Report to work on time as scheduled.

The Role and Why It's Important

Our Market Grille Clerks are at the center of one of the most exciting parts of the Hy-Vee store, serving up fresh, made-to-order food and creating a warm, welcoming experience for every customer who walks up to the counter. In this role, you'll keep things running smoothly by staying on top of orders, handling food safely, and working as part of a team that takes pride in quality and service. What You'll Do

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and going the extra mile to make every visit a positive one
• Take customer orders at the Market Grille counter and answer the telephone promptly, providing helpful service including taking product orders
• Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and prepare and replenish product as necessary
• Pull product from the cooler or freezer to prepare for cooking and ensure an adequate food supply is ready and on hand
• Handle food safely and review the status and appearance of food for freshness at all times
• Maintain a clean, sanitary work area throughout your shift
• Check in product, put product away, and review invoices as needed
• Run the department register, receive payment, and make change where applicable
• Remove trash in a timely manner and wash dishes as necessary
• Price and order product and deliver orders as needed
• Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
• Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned
• Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy-Vee policies and store guidelines
• Report to work when scheduled and on time

Your Skills

To be successful, you'll need to be able to: Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variables. Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately. Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing. Work effectively as part of a team to deliver a great customer experience.

Accountable and Reports to: Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home; Food Service Director; Market Grille Department Manager; Assistant Market Grille Department Manager; Service Managers

Education and Experience

No education requirement; we will provide all the training you need to succeed. Six months or less of similar or related work experience; prior food service experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements

Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas. Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation. Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment. Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards. Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties.

Working Environment

This role is performed in a store kitchen environment where things stay busy and engaging throughout your shift. You'll have exposure to noise, equipment movement, temperature extremes, and cleaning chemicals or solvents. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.

Compensation

The anticipated hourly starting wage for this position is $13.50 to $16.80 depending on experience.
