Responsibilities include greeting customers, taking orders, prepping products, managing inventory, handling payments, and keeping a clean workspace. Training is provided, and prior food service experience is a plus.

• Six months or less of similar or related work experience; prior food service experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Take customer orders at the Market Grille counter and answer the telephone promptly.
• Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and prepare or replenish items as needed.
• Pull products from the cooler/freezer for cooking and ensure adequate supply.
• Handle food safely and monitor freshness of food at all times.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary work area during the shift.
• Check in product, store it properly, and review invoices as needed.
• Run the department register, handle payments and give change.
• Remove trash and wash dishes as necessary.
• Price and order product and deliver orders as needed.
• Work with coworkers to ensure customer satisfaction and a positive environment.
• Assist in other store areas and take on special projects as assigned.
• Adhere to personal hygiene, dress standards, and Hy-Vee policies.

What You’ll Do

No two shifts are exactly the same, but here’s what you can expect:

• Provide prompt, friendly customer service, greeting customers with a smile, learning their names, and going the extra mile to make every visit a positive one
• Take customer orders at the Market Grille counter and answer the telephone promptly, providing helpful service including taking product orders
• Review daily orders, anticipate product needs, and prepare and replenish product as necessary
• Pull product from the cooler or freezer to prepare for cooking and ensure an adequate food supply is ready and on hand
• Handle food safely and review the status and appearance of food for freshness at all times
• Maintain a clean, sanitary work area throughout your shift
• Check in product, put product away, and review invoices as needed
• Run the department register, receive payment, and make change where applicable
• Remove trash in a timely manner and wash dishes as necessary
• Price and order product and deliver orders as needed
• Work with co‑workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment
• Assist in other areas of the store as needed and take on special projects as assigned
• Maintain strict adherence to personal hygiene, dress standards, and all Hy‑Vee policies and store guidelines
• Report to work when scheduled and on time

Your Skills

To be successful, you’ll need to be able to:

• Follow detailed written or verbal instructions and work through tasks with a few concrete variables
• Perform simple addition and subtraction, copy figures, and count and record accurately
• Understand and follow verbal or demonstrated directions and communicate supply needs orally or in writing
• Work effectively as part of a team to deliver a great customer experience

Accountable and Reports to:

Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home; Food Service Director; Market Grille Department Manager; Assistant Market Grille Department Manager; Service Managers

Education and Experience

• No education requirement; we will provide all the training you need to succeed
• Six months or less of similar or related work experience; prior food service experience is a plus

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
• Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
• Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
• Where applicable to the role: ability to operate a delivery vehicle in accordance with applicable DOT standards
• Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties

Working Environment

This role is performed in a store kitchen environment where things stay busy and engaging throughout your shift. You’ll have exposure to noise, equipment movement, temperature extremes, and cleaning chemicals or solvents. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
