Job summary

The Indoor Market Associate role at Brother Benno Foundation supports Food Recovery & Distribution services. You will help store, rotate, and distribute rescued food, assist guests, and ensure a safe, dignified shopping experience while minimizing waste.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, and sort rescued food donations for quality and safety.
  • Remove expired or damaged items before they reach shelves.
  • Store and rotate perishable and non-perishable items using FIFO to prevent waste.
  • Track inventory levels and report shortages, surpluses, or high-demand items to leadership.
  • Coordinate with Pantry and Kitchen teams for redistribution and storage of excess food.
  • Greet guests and maintain an orderly line, ensuring clear access and safety.
  • Check-in guests via database.
  • Share daily shopping guidelines and limits.
  • Restock shelves and create appealing displays to encourage healthy choices.
  • Assist guests with locating items, bagging, and carrying out purchases.
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all food handling and service areas.

Job Summary

The Indoor Market Associate reports to the Director of Operations. The Indoor Market Associate tracks and evaluates day-to-day activities and progress of the Brother Benno Foundation’s (The Foundation) Food Recovery & Distribution services. Associates ensure that rescued food from grocery stores, farms, and community donors is safely stored, rotated, and distributed to individuals and families in need. Associates are cross-trained in all aspects of market operations — from intake to checkout — to maintain a safe, dignified, and efficient shopping experience while maximizing the use of recovered food and minimizing waste. This position is an hourly position and will sometimes require execution of their duties outside normal work hours.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Food Recovery & Inventory Management
