Job summary

SubCom is seeking a highly skilled Maritime Operational Technology Lead to manage and secure OT networks on vessels and maritime facilities. You will oversee upgrades, ensure compliance with IMO rules, IACS guidelines, and flag-state requirements, and lead cross-functional teams across IT, Engineering, Vessel Operations, and Safety.

This role requires hands-on cybersecurity experience, strong project management, and the ability to obtain a valid security clearance.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of OT network experience in maritime/offshore/industrial environments.
  • Strong knowledge of SCADA, PLCs, HMIs and maritime systems.
  • Excellent project management and cross-functional leadership.
  • Familiarity with IMO cyber risk guidelines and security clearance requirement.
  • Experience with class society cybersecurity or OT systems.

Responsibilities

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Maritime Operational Technology Lead to manage, support, and enhance our OT network infrastructure across a maritime fleet. This role ensures OT systems remain reliable, secure, and compliant with international maritime regulations, including applicable IMO cybersecurity guidelines. The ideal candidate brings strong project management capabilities, a background in cybersecurity, and experience working with maritime or vessel-based OT systems.

Responsibilities
  • Manage, support, and optimize OT network systems, including switches, firewalls, PLCs, SCADA systems, and industrial controllers onboard vessels or maritime facilities.
  • Plan and execute OT network upgrades, migrations, and expansion projects with minimal operational impact.
  • Ensure OT cybersecurity practices align with maritime regulatory frameworks such as current IMO Resolutions, IACS guidelines, applicable flag-state requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Lead cross-functional technical projects and maintain project schedules, scope, and deliverables.
  • Troubleshoot OT network issues, conduct root-cause analyses, and maintain system reliability and operational readiness.
  • Audit maintenance and calibration records to ensure accuracy, compliance, and adherence to maritime safety and operational requirements.
  • Maintain thorough documentation, including network diagrams, asset inventories, cybersecurity procedures and compliance records.
  • Collaborate with IT, Engineering, Vessel Operations, and Safety departments to ensure secure and efficient IT/OT integration.
  • Monitor system performance, identify areas for improvement, and proactively mitigate operational and cybersecurity risks.
Job Qualifications
Qualifications
  • 3–5+ years of experience supporting or managing OT networks, ideally in maritime, offshore, or industrial environments.
  • Solid understanding of maritime systems, industrial communication protocols, and ICs components (SCADA, PLCs, HMIs).
  • Strong project management skills with experience leading technical or cross-functional initiatives.
  • Cybersecurity background with familiarity or hands-on experience implementing IMO cyber risk management guidelines. Excellent attention to detail with strong documentation and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Security Clearance.
  • Relevant certifications: CISSP, GICSP, PMP, CCNA/CCNP, MXCP or other related maritime-specific credentials.
  • Experience with class society requirements (ABS, DNV, Lloyd’s Register) related to cybersecurity or OT systems.
  • Familiarity with the ISM Code, IACS UR E26/E27, and other maritime governance frameworks.
