IDEX Consulting Ltd. is seeking a Senior Ocean Marine Underwriter to lead the launch of a US Brown Water marine program within an established US operation.

You will leverage deep underwriting expertise to develop profitable portfolios, strengthen broker relationships, and drive growth across wholesale and retail channels. This role emphasizes hands-on underwriting leadership, strategic portfolio management, and a bias for action to reach ambitious premium targets.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of marine underwriting experience.
• Existing MGA experience preferred.

• Detailed understanding of portfolio performance and historical loss ratios.

Responsibilities

• Join an established MGA platform with infrastructure and leadership in place to grow a Brown Water Marine portfolio.

• Build profitable premium while shaping the long-term marine business direction.
• Aim to build a US Marine business and program to $25 million premium within 5 years.

This is not another one of those "Non-marine MGAs looking to break into the marine space' positions.

This is joining an MGA who thoroughly understand the marine space, has a track record building a European Marine program and believes it is now the perfect time to launch their US Marine business within their existing US operation.

This means, we are on the lookout for the right Senior Ocean Marine Underwriter and Leader.

About the Company

Most marine MGA launches never get off the dock. No clear distribution strategy. No meaningful marine expertise. No track record. And usually a lot of promises. This opportunity is different. Our client already operates a successful commercial marine underwriting business across the UK and Europe and has an established logistics programme in the United States. Marine is not a new idea. It's not a speculative launch. It's an area where they already understand the market, the distribution and the opportunity.

About the Role

Now they’re looking for an experienced Brown Water Marine Underwriter or Program Leader to build the next chapter of the business in the US. The question is... You’ve built profitable marine portfolios. You’ve developed wholesale and retail broker relationships. You’ve helped create value for someone else’s business. When do you start building one for yourself?

Responsibilities

• Join an established MGA platform with the infrastructure, operational support and leadership team already in place, whilst having the autonomy to develop and grow a specialist Brown Water Marine portfolio.
• This is not a corporate management role. You’ll remain close to the underwriting. Close to the brokers. Close to the portfolio.
• The successful individual will be expected to build profitable premium whilst helping shape the long-term direction of the marine business.
• To build a US Marine business and program to $25million premium within 5 years.

Pay range and compensation package

On offer is a highly competitive package including salary up to $300,000, bonus, profit share and meaningful equity participation. The expectation is to build a significant marine portfolio over the coming years, supported by an established platform with ambitious but realistic growth plans.
